Makeup 101: Camilla Belle By Hung Vanngo!

Camilla Belle is such a stunning beauty. I absolutely adore this look that was created by ck one color cosmetics official makeup artist and one of my all-time favourite artists, Hung Vanngo. I was beyond thrilled to find out years back that Hung actually reads my blog from time to time! And a few years later I finally got to meet him at Toronto's first ever IMATS - makeup artists are my celebrity! I've followed his work over the years and I'm not surprised he has become a celebrity favourite. His client list includes moguls Mary Kate and Ashley Olson, the hilarious Kristen Wiig, and of course Camilla Belle to name a few. Besides him being uber talented at what he does, he's so down to earth and looks like he could be a model himself! Now he's the official makeup artist for ck one. Amazing resume wouldn't you say?

FACE

Start with ck one 3-in-1 face makeup in sand 

Mix with a drop of ck one skin illuminator in cool

Add ck one mousse concealer in 200

Use ck one cream + powder bronzer duo in warm glow around hairline and jaw to contour the face and define the shape

Dot ck one cream + powder blush duo in happiness on apples of cheeks

Set with ck one airlight pressed powder in 200

EYES

Use ck one brow pencil + gel duo in wiley brunette to fill in any sparse areas and elongate brows

Dust ck one powder eyeshadow quad in angel (the blue and silver shades) on lids and along the lower lash line

As an alternative to a traditional black liner, use ck one double-ended eyeliner in candy/poison to make eyes pop

Apply two coats of ck one mascara in show only on upper lashes

MUA Corner: The 411 On Makeup Junkie Hosted Workshops!

This is almost a month late, but this Makeup Junkie has been a busy girl! If you've been keeping up with my blog then you've read I've started hosting workshops for some of my favourite makeup artists who are the "who's who" in the industry. If you really want to be successful in the business of makeup artistry I recommend taking notes from a pro and not just any old amature.

On February 5th, I hosted a bridal makeup workshop alongside Dior Canada for Dior's Senior Artist, Fredis Velasquez. He not only is uber talented and can work magic with his brush, but he's also an old friend. I knew immediately the workshop attendees would love him and learn some major tips that would change their careers.

Fredis' was fantastic! He was funny, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. What I think stood out most was that he went to each artist and asked what their biggest makeup difficulty was. He worked one-on-one with each artist providing positive and constructive feedback and tips. Every MUA I spoke to couldn't wait for the next workshop with Fredis! We even went a half hour overtime - that's how dedicated Fredis was to his students. He wanted to make sure each person walked away learning many valuable tips.

12 Days of Holiday Beauty: Bright, Pink Lips!

If you’re deciding on a bold lip this season, don’t just reach for the typical red lipstick. Yes, red lips are glamorous and classic, but it’s not the only shade you have to rock for the holidays. If you’ve never considered bright, pink lips for your next Christmas party, do reconsider. This season, say “hi” to Bold Red’s little sister, Bright Pink. It’s a fun, unexpected, more youthful take on a bold lip.

In the past, I would only think of wearing bold pink lips in the Spring and Summer months. I’ve realized bright pink looks amazing all year long. Since you want your lips to be the focus, compliment the pink with a sweep of bronze or gold shadow across the lids. If your eyes need a little extra definition like mine do, apply a liquid liner and wing it out to the side. Apply a couple of coats of black mascara. All you really need on the cheeks is bronzer; sweep the bronzer onto your cheeks, concentrating most of the colour towards the hairline for a natural contour. Dust whatever is remaining on your brush down the bridge of your nose, temples, and chin.

Bold pinks can be quite shocking to someone who isn’t used to wearing colour. To ease into it, try a bright but sheer pink gloss with some shimmer. To keep it long lasting and to prevent the edges from bleeding, use a lip primer and outline the lips with an invisible lip liner. If you love to be the center of attention, go for a full colour lipstick or gloss. If you’d like a more polished and precise looking lip, outline the lips with a lip liner first in a similar shade. Then apply your lip colour with a lip brush. For something less polished and no-fuss, skip the lip liner. Prep lips with a lip primer then press a pink lipstick into your lips with your ringer finger. Smooth out the outline of the lips so that there are no visible lines.

When you’re thinking of a holiday pink, forget candy or baby pinks. Think bright fuchsia, berry, and magenta. Don’t be afraid of shimmery textures either. Whatever event you’ll be attending, you’ll be sure to stand out in the sea of red lips!

Makeup 101: Bridal Beauty

Wedding season has begun! My bridal beauty philosophy has always been radiant, flawless, timeless and naturally you but better. You don't want to look back at your wedding photos ten years from now and think, "What was I thinking?". 

Trying to decide on the right look for you can be difficult. Many look at the celebs for inspiration, but in the end you want to decide on a look that will suit you. You also want makeup that isn't fussy and will need multiple touch-ups throughout the day. Keep in mind, your wedding makeup will be a bit stronger to compensate for lighting in the photographs. So, don't be alarmed if you're wearing more blush than usual. A skilled makeup artist will know how to make those cheeks pop while making it appear like you're glowing from within.

Get the Look: Drew Barrymore Pretties Up the SAG Awards

Drew Barrymore's winning look at the SAG Awards complimented her win for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries! I adored her look from head to toe.

Get the Look:

The inspiration behind her glamorous beauty look was took a cue from the 60's Brigitte Bardot and Sharon Tate. For the makeup, Debra Ferullo, celebrity makeup artist, didn’t want to match the blue color in her dress, but rather accentuate Drew’s natural features with warm undertones.

Face:

Debra  prepped the skin with a moisturizer and then used COVERGIRL Clean Liquid Makeup for normal skin followed by a highlighter and COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Plush Peach on the cheeks.

Eyes:

For Drew’s 60’s inspired colorful smoky eye, Debra applied COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Bronze Fire, using the darker shade on the lid and the taupe shade in the eye crease as well as underneath the eye. She then applied a dot of the silver shade in COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Silver Sky to the inner corner of Drew’s eye to make it pop, followed by a thin line of white eyeliner on the inner bottom eye.

She finished the eye with a heavy coat of DiorShow Blackout Mascara to the top and bottom lashes for definition.

Lips: 

On Drew’s lips, Debra applied DiorAddict lipcolor in Beige Negligee #223, followed by DiorAddict Ultra Gloss in Jersey Pink #157 for a washed peach lip with a shiny finish.

Hair 101: Styling Tips For Gorgeous Waves

Some are blessed with gorgeous hair that requires little or no styling at all. If you're like me, then a lot of effort is involved in getting that celebrity hair. Nowadays, women want sexy big Gisele hair or boho beach waves like Lauren Conrad. Don't fret my beauties! With some must-have products and a few styling tips you can have celebrity-worthy hair in no time!

Styling Tips:
• For voluminous loose waves, add a volumizing product like 1. Schwartzkopf Professional OSiS Glamour Queen, to the roots and a styling cream with a light hold to the ends. To keep it effortless and easy, this works best when hair is left to air-dry.
• When hair is still wet, scrunch hair in hands after applying a styling cream to encourage some wave or curl.
• Blow dry hair completely dry before styling. Cuts down on damage to the hair and makes styling easier.
• Whether you use a round brush, curling iron, or flat iron it’s all about the direction in which the hair is styled. Achieve volume at the root by blow drying the hair up with your hands or round brush (at the crown or front section to crown).
• You can also use 2. Velcro rollers to achieve volume.
• To give the hair more definition, take pieces here and there and curl with a 3. flat iron for a softer wave or a curling iron for a more defined curl. Twist the flat iron all the way down the hair curling away from the face. Using a curling iron, wrap sections of hair around the barrel.
• To really loosen the curl, flip hair upside down and shake at the root or finger-comb through the hair. You can also brush through the hair for even looser waves.
• For extra volume and hold at the root, use a product that will add volume and texture like 4.
Schwartzkopf Professional OSiS Dust It. This powder looks like baby powder but dissolves right into the scalp. Sprinkle and shake at the root or anywhere you need extra volume. Dust It absorbs oil and is remoldable. If hair starts to go flat mid-day, just shake your hair at the root. Finish hair with a medium hold spray or Glamour Queen.
