Day 5: 14 Good-For-You Lippies For Valentine's Day!

Day 5 features a super-emollient lip stain you'll fall in love with!

Tarte Natural Lip Stain Pencil in Enchanted (available February 2010, $24 USD/$31 CDN): The people behind Tarte know that what we put on our skin counts. The brand's popular line of all-natural products not only look pretty but promote healthy looking skin!

I've been a huge fan of Tarte's Cheek Stain and many of their lip products for a long time. I was delighted when I heard that they were coming out with a line of lip stains. For those of you that would prefer to use a stain but don't like how drying it can be then you should give Tarte's version a whirl!

It is clinically proven to increase lips' moisture by 6000%! I'm not really sure where that number came from but it is very moisturizing. The pencils are made with LipSurgence technology which quickly absorbs into the skin delivering a surge of moisture and increasing your lips' water content for a plumped appearance without the stinging. I've only used it a few times and haven't really noticed if it has increased my lips' moisture because they still chap here and there. However, my lips do look extremely smooth and feel incredibly soft! I'll have to do a follow-up review.

I received Enchanted, a rose shade, that gives your lips a natural flush of colour. It's another one of those shades that is "your lips but better". One layer will give you a kiss of rose but swipe on a few layers and the colour is more bold, perfect to wear right into the evening. These stains are seriously long-lasting even through a meal! This is definitely a versatile shade that will work for many skin tones. Besides the uber moisture-factor, it has a lovely peppermint flavour. Another great feature? No sharpener required - just twist the bottom to replenish!

Also available in: Amused (bright pink), Charmed (light pink), Joy (peach), Lust (red), Moody (deep berry)

Formulated WITHOUT:
Parabens
Sulfates
Synthetic Fragrances
Synthetic Dyes
Petro-Chemicals
Phthalates
GMOs
Triclosan

Have you tried these lip stains? Love it? Hate it? Want it?

Hope For Haiti Sponsor Profile: Mary Kay

Today we feature the one cosmetic line that empowers women to take charge of their own career, Mary Kay!

Mary Kay: When I think Mary Kay I picture the mother from Edward Scissorhands; decked out in a Pepto-pink 60's uniform carrying a Pepto-pink makeup case full of creams, correctors and lipsticks. Well, in a previous post we've discovered it's "not your grandmother's makeup anymore"!

Mary Kay Ash built her company with a passionate, can-do attitude and is one of the world's leading business women in history. She has allowed many women to take charge of their careers and experience success on their own terms. I think all of us know at least one woman who is a Mary Kay representative!

Thank you to the wonderful team at Mary Kay for your generous donation!

FOTD/NOTW

This was today's FOTD. Something really simple cause I was in a hurry and only really had like 30 minutes to do everything.

Products used:
FACE Neutrogena moisturizer with SPF 15 (I was in hurry and didn't want to bother with moisturizer + sun block), Maybelline Clear Smooth powder
CHEEKS Ellana mineral blush in Lust (not very visible in the photo, huh), Physician's Formula pearls of perfection for contouring
EYES Art Deco eyeshadow base, PAC palette, Dollface 28 neutral palette, Maybelline eye studio pencil eyeliner in black, Maybelline Volum Express Cat Eyes Mascara
LIPS Revlon Colorstay in Unlimited Mulberry

I did my eyes simply because anything more attention grabbing and I would look kinda weird (since I was just wearing a t-shirt + jeans to class today).

And here's my NOTW:

As you can see (or maybe not) it was already chipping. It's not that shiny anymore, either..my fault because I got too lazy to put a top coat on after I put the glitter layer on. I'm changing it soon, anyway, because Valentine's (or, to some of us, Single's Awareness Day) is near...so is Chinese New Year's. Hmm... no I have to decide which theme to follow when I paint my nails this weekend.

The base polish I used for my NOTW this week is really nice though. It's this pearlescent white that turns orange-y/pinkish when light hits it.

Anyway, I have more posts coming up soon! My dad just got back from the US and he brought some stuff home from me, so you'll hear about that sometime. Also, I think by the end of February I can finally do a before/after shot (of my weight loss journey). I started on Dec. 11 and so far I've lost almost 15 lbs. Just 5-10lbs to go (I'm not sure where I'm stopping because I want to see how I look like at that weight before I decide. LOL)!

Day 4: 14 Good-For-You Lippies For Valentine's Day!

Day 4 lippie of the day? Makeup Junkie is featuring an eco-friendly, all-natural lipstick!

CARGO PlantLove Lipstick in Cece ($20 CDN/USD): When CARGO isn't creating makeup must-haves, they are taking care of the environment. The brand's line of PlantLove lipstick is 100% natural and the lipstick tube is made out of corn! These lipsticks are certified by ECOCERT for being environmentally friendly in Product, Packaging, and Process. To sweeten the deal $2 from every celeb-designed lipstick goes to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Cece is a "sheer shimmering berry plum". It's a gorgeous shade and would work on many skin tones. The texture is sheer but definitely has some colour to it. Pair this with some liquid liner, falsies, rosy or bronzed cheeks and you'll look dazzling for Valentine's!

The lipsticks do not contain mineral oils or petroleum - did you know petroleum dries out your lips making you addictive to lip balm? They are also free of parabens, phthlates, petro-chemicals, synthetic dyes and fragrances. You'll love the hydrating and soothing texture so swipe away - it's good for you!

Have you tried this lipstick? Love it? Hate it? Want it?

Dr. Oz and The Price of Beauty

I love beauty but not at the price of my health. Tuesday's Dr. Oz show was about the harmful toxins and chemicals in the makeup we use - I missed the show but read the article. A real eye opener. Over the years I've become more conscious of what I put on my skin and try to avoid products that contain parabens, sulfates and petroleum to name a few. It's hard to avoid when most of the brands you love still contain these ingredients.

Question is when will the other big name cosmetic companies wake up and stop putting harmful ingredients in products that are supposed enhance our beauty? Check out the Dr. Oz article "The Price of Beauty" to read about what's good for you and what ingredients to avoid.

What's your take? Do you only use all-natural or organic cosmetics? Do you read the ingredients on the labels?

Keep following my 14 Good-For-You Lippies For Valentine's Day to read about all natural or paraben-free lip products!
