2 Blog Awards and 200 followers!
I was very surprised to receive these two blog awards; one is from a few months ago, and the other is from today. I'm a bit (a lot) ashamed that it took me this long to post the first one, but better late than never right? haha.. ;)
Anyway, both of these awesome ladies have awesome blogs, so definitely check them out!
![]() |
I got this award from the wonderful Madiha at Madiha's Makeup Blog! Thanks Madiha! <3 |
![]() |
I just received this award from the sweet and lovely Lisa at Ms. Prettyful Girl. Thank you Lisa! :) |
To save time I'll do both at once, since they both have the same requirements apparently:
-Thank the person who gave you the award, and link back to them on your blog
-Tell us 7 things about yourself
-Tag some more bloggers for the award
-Contact these bloggers to let them know they've been tagged
Here we go!
Seven (hopelessly boring) things about Emily? Well...
1. I have never tried a single MAC product, but I plan to someday!
2. I was homeschooled for most of my school-aged life.
3. When I was a teen, I had braces on my top teeth only. Apparently my bottom teeth were fine... x3
4. I was a Teacher's Pet in school. (Preschool-2nd grade)
5. I'm a bad nailbiter and have been for most of my life. If you know of any effective ways to quit, I'd love to hear them!
6. I've been playing World of Warcraft off and on for the past 6 years. My favorite classes are Shaman and Paladin ;P
7. I am 1/4 Russian on my Father's side :)
Okay, now that that's over with lol, time to tag some people! For one of these awards, (feel free to choose one!), I'm just going to tag a few:
Betsy at No Empty Yesterdays
Christina at Confessions of a Glitterholic
Samantha at Give Me Samantha
Christa at Play Hard, Look Fabulous
Katt at Kattatonic Fierceology
Sara at World of a Different Color
Pepi at Make Up Like Grafitti
Again, this is just for fun so if you'd rather not do it, then don't! ;)
Also, I just wanted to say a quick thank you to my now 200 subscribers, THANK YOU!!! I never thought anyone would ever even read my silly blog, let alone subscribe to it on purpose lol. I love doing this blog, it's a lot of fun for me, and I especially enjoy it when others enjoy it too. I love reading your blogs and your comments on my posts; you guys are seriously the sweetest bunch of people! I'm humbled and honored that you would pay attention to anything I have to share, so thank you all from the bottom of my heart. <3
That's all for now, thanks for reading and I hope you're all having a wonderful (or at least not horrible) week. God Bless you guys!

Color Explosion!!!
Spring 2011 gives us an infuse of color the likes of which we haven't seen in years. Most seen colors on the New York runways of fashion week? Bright blues, bright chartreuse (is there any other kind?), bright pink, bright reds...Are you seeing a pattern???
*BRIGHT*
Whites, tans and golds were also thrown into the mix whilst incorporating these bright colors. Look at these yummy images below to see how this trend plays out in clothing and makeup.
Makes me think of Gidget movies from the late 50's early 60's...well maybe not the head piece...

All shades of red are welcome, but look below for SHOCK value!

Hot pink is fantastic and also very daring. If you can't commit to the brightness in a large way try it out on your lips first. My fav? Girl About Town from MAC.
Chartreuse may be a color I have to lightly tread into. My goal this next month? Find one way I can incorporate this bold color into my wardrobe. I think it DoEs look pretty fantastic with that tan!

Without QUESTION I heart white! I am even changing my whole ROOM to have white bedding, large white flower arrangements around the room and I LOVE me a great white T with jeans!!!!! I absolutely love these flowing frocks of yumminess and want them like yesterday!

Tan.
Oh the warmness and chicness of tan. You just can't go wrong. Well, maybe you can...

And last but not least GOLDS.
Who doesn't love to sparkle and shine? Find an excuse to sparkle sometime this month and if you don't have a reason MAKE one! Have a girls night out and have everyone step it up a notch. Sometimes I get tired of reserving my cute little dresses for Sunday and wear them out when everyone is in jeans. THAT'S OKAY! Rock a look and have fun with it. If you're looking for a fab eye color to go with your sparkle, brush on some MAC Motif (looks gold but has a pink pearl shine to it) and out you go!

CityLine Show Full of Bloggers = A Rowdy, Chatty, and Gorgeous Bunch!
(Warning: Most pictures appear blurry and have bad lighting. You can blame that on my Blackberry!)
Pre-show: getting set up and bloggers seated.
I've always wanted to sit in the audience of CityLine, particularly during one of the Fashion Friday episodes. But when I was invited to join the audience for a special Blogger episode I jumped on the chance - couldn't be more perfect!
Me and familiar face Anita from, From L.A. With Love and Primped and Proper, waiting for the show to start.
The show was aimed at bloggers and how social media has changed all different industries from design, food, being a working mommy, and of course beauty! I had no idea who would be attending so when I arrived, I was immediately greeted with the familiar smiling faces of my fellow beauty bloggers. Everyone looked gorgeous and colourful. The energy in the green room was super hype especially when CityLine's stunning host, Tracy Moore, came in the room to say hi!
The two gorgeous Tracy's - Tracy Peart and Tracy Moore!
The show had some great guests including Erica Ehm from Yummy Mummy Club and one of my favourite makeup artists CityLine's awesome Tracy Peart! This was the only show where audience members could tweet and be on their phones. It was hilarious to see everyone's heads down furiously tweeting away!
Each guest gave many wonderful tips on Do's and Don'ts of social media. Tracy P. had a good one that I also see often - if you're leaving a comment on another blogger's site don't include a your own website's url. I get it - you want to give your site more exposure but it may come across as spamming someone's site and the comments don't seem genuine. Other bloggers will eventually follow your blog if you visit and comment on their site regularly.
My favourite part of the show was of course the beauty segment with Tracy P.! She shared her favourite beauty products to use: cult classic L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara (used to be a staple of mine - forgot how much I loved it! Will have to pick up the water-proof version.), Vasanti Liquid Cover Up, Hard Candy Visibly Wet Lip Pencil, and a new favourite of mine M.A.C.'s Greasepaint Stick in French Quarter. I have been using this a lot and I love it! Best part - we got to take Tracy's favourites home along with some other awesome giveaways! Tracy is always giving tips on her beauty blog and does beauty how-to videos on CityLine.ca - be sure to check her out for some pro tips!
I asked Tracy a few questions about beauty and social media - here's what she had to say!
MJ: Favourite Spring makeup trend?
Tracy: My favorite makeup trend for Spring 2011 is bright, brilliant, neon colors for the eyes. Whether it be an eyeshadow all over the eye or an eyeliner just to accent the eye. I'm excited about BOLD colors being IN again!
MJ: Favourite product for Spring trends?
TP: My favorite product that will work with the Spring Trend, is an oldie but a goodie "Electric Eel" Eyeshadow by MAC. It's an outgoing color that can be worn subtly or loudly!
MJ: Best thing about starting your blog and being on Twitter?
TP: Best thing about blogging and being on Twitter is all the new people I've come into contact with. Whether it's makeup companies, or the everyday woman who looks to my blog for advice, or fellow Bloggers like you! Before being involved with social media, I didn't know them and they didn't know me. For instance, you and I met at a Blogger Party and remain in contact via Twitter! It's GREAT!
And it's true - love Twitter for connecting with other like-minded peeps! Thanks Tracy!
Unfortunately, I didn't get to stick around after the show to get more pictures and to attend the Tweetup at the ritzy Ritz Carlton. It was a fun experience and it's always good to see my beauty blogger sistas! The show airs March 29 at 9 am so don't miss it! Thank you to CityLine and Tracy P. for the invite! Here are some more photos from the show!

Glow Wisdom
It's Monday! So here is some insight from Dr. Jessica Wu over at the Glow.
Have you noticed that certain celebs look younger in some photos and older in others? In many cases, a simple change of hair, makeup, and clothing can make a huge difference in how young or old someone looks. Here are some quick tricks that can make you look instantly more youthful:
Moisturize
Younger skin is soft, smooth, and dewy, so moisturize if your skin is dry or flaky. If you have an oily T zone or large pores, just moisturize any dry, flaky patches, typically the cheeks or around the nostrils and the sides of the chin. (click here for a quick fix)
Light makeup
Light makeup
The more your natural skin texture shows, the more youthful you’ll look, so use a light hand when applying makeup. Too much foundation or powder can settle into fine lines, accentuating wrinkles. Instead, use concealer strategically, only where you need it: on dark circles under the eyes, red patches around the nose, and/or any sun-damage spots. For the rest, use light liquid foundation or powder. Play up your eyes or lips, but not both. A smoky eye + a nude lip = sexy. A smoky eye + a red lip + loads of blush = painted lady.
Natural hair
Natural hair
Work with your hair’s natural texture and body. Stick-straight hair can look severe. On the other hand, stiff, teased hair can make you look like an extra from Mad Men. We love Joan, but she and everyone else back then appears older, thanks to their sprayed-to-death bouffant hair. Don’t be afraid to loosen up your hairstyle. You can look carefree and pretty but still well groomed.
*BEAUTY BONUS from DR. JESSICA WU*
Stylish & Sustainable
I packed Cove rGirl's NatureLuxe Gloss Balm for a ski trip recently and used it all weekend. It comes in a slim tube and moisturizes like lip balm (it contains castor seed oil, shea butter, and mango seed butter) while also giving you just a hint of sheer color, so you don't look overly made up when you're doing sports or working out at the gym.

M.I.A.
So sweet Jenni was kind enough to inform me that I have been M.I.A. for quite some time and that I left you lovely ladies hanging without results of some products I had been testing. So...
First: Let me just say... I apologize for leaving you hanging on the results of the tested products.
Second: I am totally going to give you my good excuses for being gone so long:
1: I was traveling around working for Lancome, doing makeovers and training counter ladies.
2: I'm pregnant, and therefore getting huge and tired, and still chasing after my two little nuggets who are 2 and 4.
3: Every time I watched a video I made, I cringed and felt incredibly stupid (I.E. "Ugh... why did I make a video when I looked so bad?" "Why do I do that weird thing with my mouth when I'm nervous?" "I sound like a man.").
Third: I hope those were good enough excuses, and I hope you forgive me.
Fourth: Here is my long forgotten review on.....
THE OSMOTICS HAIR CARE LINE!!
*Excuse the makeup in this picture. I was tired, swollen, & just not in the mood to do any. Just try to focus on the hair. :) *
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpsbkKTCZDciGdVo_txUAIhQh5icv0-l4py-su-MsYSWCUPua7kW79t64-BOzyyr-kipEjwU6jGXFbAYDxG2O3yuSvWJQJTwrqQAGwpTo1vfln_GMa7EWpM_avOkl07dwHDybagCZV1am-/s320/Photo+79.jpg)
So.... I LOVE IT!! I really feel like the Osmotics hair care line really has given my hair more volume, more thickness, and has made it healthier, softer, and shinier.
The shampoo really cleansed my hair and the great thing about it is that it does not contain sodium lauryl sulfates which dry and irritate the scalp.
The conditioner really makes the hair soft and manageable but does not contain heavy oils or waxes that leave the hair limp and dull.
The serum is the nice little cherry on the top, that really gives your hair A+ results!
Basically, for those wanting to help their lack luster fine locks.... these are a great buy!!
As I said in the video ages ago....
You can purchase these products at either your local Dillards (if they carry it), or online at www.dillards.com.
The Shampoo is $24.00, the Conditioner is $26.00, and the Serum is $69.00.
You can also purchase them straight from the company online at www.osmotics.com. Right now they are having a Stock up Sale and if you Buy 3, you get 1 free.
Anyway, that's the review, sorry I neglected you ladies for so long. Have a great day, and great hair to all!!!

Spring Beauty Review: O.P.I. Pirates of Caribbean Stranger Tides - The Greens Are Winning Me Over!
The softer sides of green are drawing me in and is now this season's "it" colour of the moment for me. I'm loving all versions in teal, mint green, and now this more muted sage shade from O.P.I's Pirates of Caribbean collection called Stranger Tides.
Stranger Tides is not a shocking shade for spring, but it's a new neutral without being so neutral. On my skin tone, it looks more natural but I imagine on someone more fairer it would stand out a lot more. I love this shade especially since it's one I definitely don't own already. The only thing I find with this cream collection is that you need to apply 3 coats to cover evenly (maybe it's just the way I apply it). Otherwise, it's a lovely shade to add to your spring collection!
Have you tried this O.P.I. shade? Love it? Hate it? Want it?

Available May 2011 and retails for $10.95 CAD.
Product was sent for editorial consideration and I really love it.

Sexy Purple and Pink using BFTE
![]() |
All pics are "clickable"! :D |
Hey guys, I'm finally getting around to posting the "tutorial" some of you asked for! Sorry I'm so late on this; it's been almost a week but I've been under the weather again lately, and also having computer problems. Fun fun fun ;)
So this is the look I posted last week on BFTE's Facebook page, using of course all BFTE pigments. :) I didn't take pics of every step, sadly.. but I'll try my best to go over what I did so those of you who like to duplicate can go to it! (If you'd like to see the review I did of these specific colors, go here!)
Products I used:
Eyes:
-UDPP
-CS concealer palette (lightest pink shade on dark circles)
Beauty from the Earth eyeshadows in:
-Sweet n' Spicy (lid)
-Midnight Kisses (crease, liner)
-Butt Naked (highlight)
-Loreal Carbon Black liquid liner pen
-Shu Uemura lash curler
-Maybelline The Colossal mascara in Classic Black
-Andrea Modlash false lashes
Brow:
-mark. Eyemarker in Java
-medium brown shadow from CS 88 matte palette
That's all! Now I'll try to explain step by step what I did a little bit, so if you're interested, keep reading!
![]() |
Don't do what I did and apply pigment AFTER you've applied your mascara/falsies... major fallout collection. >.< Well, unless you like sparkly lashes :) |
1. After priming, I used a wet brush to apply Midnight Kisses, (deep blue-purple), to my crease area, starting small and then blending out. (Be careful not to blend too much yet! It can be easy to accidentally let a dark color like Midnight Kisses take over your whole eye space before you know it, hehe.)
2. I deliberately stayed a little above my actual crease fold. When I had roughly the shape I wanted, I used a clean blending brush to blend out the edges. Then I patted a little dry Midnight Kisses over the outer crease area for more depth.
3. Next I mixed a drop or two of BFTE Mix & Fix with some Sweet n' Spicy, (frosty light peachy-pink), and applied wet to my lid. I need more practice with this stuff, I accidentally used too much and the shadow was too wet. When I applied it to my lid it kind of crinkled up and dried kind of cracked and flaky. I used the brush to try and blend out the foiled part to smooth it, then patted on some dry Sweet n' Spicy.
4. I lined my upper lashline with the liquid liner pen, winging it out, and then patted Midnight Kisses over it with an angled liner brush. On my lower lashline I used Midnight Kisses dry by itself, no base or anything! You can see how pigmented it is. ;)
5. I used Butt Naked, (creamy off-white), dry, to blend out the edges of Midnight Kisses around my browbone, and used a tiny pencil/crease/detail brush to highlight my inner corner, taking it under my eye and out around the wing.
6. I curled my lashes, added some mascara to top and bottom, popped on my falsies, and voila!
Of course I tweaked a bit here and there, but that's roughly the way I did it lol. I tried to be thorough, but if you have any questions please let me know! :)
Here are a few more pics to show you how it looks on my face, taken in different lighting situations and with two different cameras:
Pay no attention to my skin... I usually try not to edit my pics before I post them, and I'm having bad skin time lately. :( But I think it helps to give the overall effect of the look when you can see the whole face, rather than just a cropped eye. ;)
Thank you so much for reading, and a special thanks to all my BFTE ladies for being so encouraging and lovely! You guys are my inspiration. <3
Have a great weekend everyone!
Beauty Confession: My Bad Beauty Habit
Being a makeup artist, I pride myself on helping other women look and feel their very best whether it be giving flawless skin or beauty tips. But even this makeup junkie has a few bad beauty habits with this particular one being the worst. I would never tell other women to do this!
Yikes! These are the state of my nails at the moment. I don't know what it is about nail polish remover (maybe the rancid smell), but I am lazy when it comes to removing my polish. As soon as I see a chip, I start picking and peeling at it until the point of no return. It's a bad habit and I'm addicted to it. I'll sit on my couch watching a show peeling my polish, not realizing the mess of chipped polish around me until my nails are all bare. In the end, my nails look horribly damaged. I'm not sure how much damage I'm actually doing to my nails but they don't look pretty. And as a makeup artist, my hands are always in my client's face so this is just embarrassing!
This is the wicked colour that was on my nails when they were all pretty looking. Meet Cheeky Monkey's Raunchy Bitch ($15 CAD). It's an awesome dark metallic blue with purple undertones. It lasted on me for about 3 or 4 days max but the shade collection is unique and the names are hilarious! It's also a Canadian company! I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Andrea Pahn, at Stephanie Daga's The Beauty Board event back in November. If you have ever met her then you'll know her line reflects her humour to the 'T'! If you don't have a sense of humour or are more on the conservative side, then this line probably won't appeal to you especially with names like "Hot Slut" or "Party Whore". Otherwise, check out this line - cosmetics are supposed to be fun so just go with it!
What are your bad beauty habits?

Mila Kunis Cosmo Cover
LOVE this look!!! Have been wanting to do it for a while and glad that I finally finished it =). I have never seen Mila Kunis look this amazing.
Spring Beauty Review: Get Glowing With Stila's Spring Collection!
Are you a Stila girl? My first purchase at Sephora back in the day was Stila's classic click pen gloss in Apricot and Seashell eyeshadow that came in the cardboard packaging. It's been a while since I last purchased anything from Stila but the Spring collection is drawing me back!
Stila Kitten All Over Shimmer Duo in Kitten ($29 CAD): Stila's best-selling shadow, Kitten, now comes in a multi-purpose all over shimmer! The duo includes a pale iridescent pink and Kitten, a glowing gold. I love that it has two different shades and comes in such a sleek compact. This has been my go-to shimmer powder in my kit. The finish leaves your skin with a natural, luminous glow that gives you that healthy J-Lo glow. And the fact that you can use it as a shadow and a highlighter is a bonus!
Stila Eye Shadow Trio in Ethereal ($26 CAD): If you love shimmery shadows then you will love these trios. These lovely shadows can be worn wet or dry. Even when worn dry the pigment is pretty strong. This trio is also a no-brainer even for a makeup novice. It includes a light base shade (light pinky tan with shimmer), a medium lid shade (light mauve grey with silver shimmer), and a dark shade (dark brown with gold pearl) that can be used as a liner. But of course you can mix up the shadows any way you like. This is quite a shimmery palette so I would off-set it with a matte shadow in the crease especially if you'll be photographed. Ethereal pulls out the warmer tones in my skin which can make me look more sallow. To make it work for me, I use a cooler toned dark purple or dark brown. The sleek packaging also makes it kit friendly which I love! Ethereal is a new one for Spring and is also available in Gilded.
Stila Coconut Crush Lip & Cheek Stain ($29 CAD): Being on-the-go all the time, I really appreciate multi-functional products that really work. There are a lot of products out there that claim to work on all areas of the face but skimp out on long-lasting pigment or just don't work on the eyes. I've always kind of passed by Stila's lip & cheek stains but have always wanted to try them. I have a lot of cheek stains, but have never found a bronzy shade that didn't look blotchy or streaky. The rose-gold tones in this bronze gel-stain makes it really wearable as a blush. The gel texture blends lovely onto the skin and isn't sticky but offers a nice dewy glow that stays on all day. I love layering a powder blush over top for some dimension or for lasting wear. I don't usually gravitate towards bronze shades on the lips, but the rose undertone really perks it up. It lasts a bit longer than a full-colour lipstick but I found once I ate anything oily it would come right off (oil does remove makeup!). The click-style pen applicator is super portable and easy to use! Now I want to try the other shades!
Have you tried Stila's spring collection? Love it? Hate it? Want it?
Stila's Spring collection is available now at various Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques.

Gorgeous BFTE colors! Photos+swatches!
My latest from BFTE, likely to be my last BFTE haul for a bit but I had to get these colors!
![]() |
L to R: Butt Naked(sample), Sweet n' Spicy(COTW), Midnight Kisses. |
Butt Naked and Midnight Kisses are both from the Hot and Bothered Valentine's Day set, and were just recently added to the site for individual purchase. I'm so excited to finally have them! I only got a sample of Butt Naked, but I can already tell it's the perfect creamy highlighter. I have a feeling I'll use it up quickly. Midnight Kisses was the prize I chose for being BFTE 365 look #65, yay!
I got free sample baggies of Crystal and Silver, two colors I've been wanting to try. :)
I also thought it was finally time to try out the infamous Mix & Fix. More on this later when I've tested it out better. ;)
On to swatches! (All swatches swatched on bare skin, prepped with a little Pond's cream. Almost all pics taken in natural light.)
![]() |
Natural light. |

Blurry flash pic :) |
![]() |
Here you can sort of see the tiny sparkles in Midnight Kisses, and that Sweet n' Spicy is much frostier. Really love both of these colors!! |
![]() |
Natural light (I think..) |
![]() |
Crystal is supposed to be a silvery white with multicolored sparkles, but I have to say I couldn't really notice any multicolored sparkles. I didn't look too hard though, maybe I'll try it with the Mix & Fix and see if it brings them out. Silver is just that, a sparkly silver color. Both of these colors are very sparkly, enough that I probably won't use them dry too often because they're a little messy. These would probably be awesome foiled. (Btw, Crystal is the COTW this week, so if you like the pics and want to try it, head on over to BFTE's site to score a full-size jar for only $2!) |
![]() |
Direct sunlight, pretty sparkles! |
All in all, I love this haul! My favorites are Butt Naked, Sweet n' Spicy, and Midnight Kisses, they're all simply gorgeous! I did a look using all 3 colors, so I'll be posting about that separately soon since this post is already pretty long.
I also used the Mix & Fix, so I'll talk about that a little, but I really need more practice with it lol. All I can say is, YOU ONLY NEED ONE DROP! I learned the hard way, hehe. ;)
![]() |
Cleo loves it too ;3 |
I'll leave you with Cleo, my curious paper-loving kitty! I was compiling all my old BFTE envelopes to throw away, and she came over and sat on them. She loves sitting on paper, weirdo. ;P
Have a good week everyone!
