EOTD: Candy Dragon

Hey there! After a very busy but thoroughly enjoyable weekend, I'm back with a new look; it's sort of unofficially called "Candy Dragon" because of the colors, obviously, and because the shape reminds me a bit of a dragon. Or something.
My inspiration came from my model's outfit on se.gosupermodel.com
I loved the color combination of the pretty pastels with the indigo hair and gold accents, and you may be able to see the shape of her fin-like ears and gold wings in the shape of the eyeshadow. ;3 I used some new products, as well as some I haven't used in a while. I don't know if the colors look quite pastel but anyway..
Click the pics to view full size/color/detail:
Sorry this one is so dark but I didn't want to obliterate the detail by messing too much with the exposure etc.
This is the one I edited most heavily because the white balance was weird, but I think it's my favorite picture; it looks cool :)
Products:

-TFSI Candlelight
-Tick:Tock Cosmetics Infinity Shadow Base in Milky Way (white)
-Lime Crime Makeup D'Antoinette Fantasy Palette
-BH 120 Palette, 1st edition (pale butter yellow shade)
-CS 88 Palette (purple and pink shades)
-BFTE "Midnight Kisses" (deep blurple on outer edge)
-BFTE "Aphrodite" (sheer shimmery purple patted over purple shade)
-BFTE "Soleil" (pale metallic yellow on tearduct)
-BFTE "Autumn" (metallic gold) with BFTE Mix & Fix
-BFTE "Way Up High" and "Satin Sheets" (whites on browbone, outer edge, under tearduct)
-Lime Crime Makeup Uniliner liquid liners in Quill and Orchid-acious (black and purple)
-Sephora white pencil on waterline
-Cover Girl Lash Perfection mascara
-Ardell lashes
-Blue and purple shades from 88 palette and Midnight Kisses on brow, used with Mix & Fix
-Mehron Celebre Pro HD creme foundation and mark. Powder Buff in Nude on skin

I'm so used to taking makeup pics in daylight now but last night I was struck with inspiration so I had to make do with my old system of regular lights and using flash; that's why each photo looks a bit different, because I'm constantly altering the lighting/angle etc. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this look! It was challenging to do because it's a bit out of my norm, but I think it turned out okay.

Thanks for reading!

Summer Feature 2012: Beach Love

There are certain things that have to be apart of my summer - traveling, BBQ (foodie over here!), and Bob Marley. Warm, sunny weather brings on so many possibilities so you need to be prepared for any situation. If you're a sun lover and like to spend your days chilaxing on the beach, here are a list of my must-have beach essentials!

  • la Vie en Rose Tankini in Saffron: I don't know if I've met any woman who LOVES bathing suit shopping (and if you do then grr). If the search for the perfect swimsuit has been a painful one, go visit la Vie en Rose for a variety of styles for all shapes at reasonable prices. If you've been on the Tangerine Tango tip, you'll love this one! Ok, so I'm not in my 20's anymore and have had 2 kids which means things sit a little differently (ok I'll blame it also on my lack of exercise). Tankinis may seem a little "mature" but they are a belly-conscious girl's BFF. I love this one from la Vie en Rose. It gives you support in the bust area and hides that not-so-tight tummy. The simple design yet bold shade will have you looking fab while laying under the sun.
  • la Vie en Rose Bottoms with Side String: The side strings on the matching bottoms give the entire look a younger, trendier feel (plus you can loosen a bit more if it's feeling a bit snug on the hips). And if you've got a lil' booty goin' on, the bottoms are full coverage!
  • Vichy Captial Soleil SPF 30 Luxurious Protective Oil: Want to make your bod look sexy and still be protected from the skin? I'm loving this protective sun oil from Vichy. I've had issues in the past with other SPF products giving me rashes, but so far so good! What I like to do is spray in my hands, then rub onto my skin. This way I know I'm covering all areas properly. The texture feels pretty silky, but for some might feel heavy for everyday. Your skin will look radiant though! It's perfect for lazing around at the beach. Keep in mind, it's not waterproof so you'll need to reapply. If you plan to use it on the face, spray into your hands first then apply on the face. If you burn easily, you something with a higher SPF.
  • YSL La Laque Couture in Corail Colisee: I am loving YSL's new line of La Laque polishes! The shades are so bold and lovely. They are a cream finish and apply perfectly with little streaking. And the wear-time is really good. I wore one in Paris and it lasted for almost the 11 days. The brush is a little different than I'm used to, but I actually like it. It has a rounder edge and is wide which is perfect for my wide nail beds. Corail Colisee is a juicy, tangerine coral. It's a beautiful shade especially against tanned skin.

  • Dior Addict Lip Balm in Crystal Coral: I LOVE tinted lip balms. I am never without one. When I first saw Crystal Coral in the tube, it didn't really excite me. But one swipe and now I'm in love. It's the perfect mix of coral with a hint of pink shimmer. It's so gorgeous and is always in my purse. It's my go-to lippie right now for easy-breezy sunshine fun! Lip balms with an SPF irritate my lips, but if you need sun protection I recommend using a clear balm with SPF then applying this on top. I love the moisturizing texture and the shade is sheer but still very noticeable. Would I purchase again? I love Dior lip products, but at $30 for a tinted balm it's a bit absurd. Why do I have to have such expensive taste?? Anything Dior are splurge items for me so get this when you feel like a luxurious makeup treat!

  • Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray: This is on my need-to-get list right now. I tried this from a friend of mine and I kind of need to have it now. Like sushi (talking about food again!), it's an acquired taste. Call me crazy, but I love it when my hair is a little crazy and curly in the summer. I don't even mind the frizz because it makes those wavy styles look effortless. I like to go a little boho-chic in the summer, so beachy hair is where it's at. If you've frolicked in the ocean before, then you're familiar with the voluminous, sexy texture the salt water gives you. Surf Spray is salt-water in a bottle but with some nourishing ingredients to give back some moisture. To avoid over doing it and making your hair feel too sticky or dirty, spray it in your hands first then work it into the ends. Your waves and curls will last all day!
  • Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadow in 26E: Gimme! Gimme! Anything that is sweat-proof or water-proof is an all around summer essential whether you're at the beach, poolside, or at the cottage. I've been a fan of MUFE's Aqua Creams so I'm thrilled they came out with a pencil version. When you're on the run, these are definitely more convenient and they are so portable! They are easy to apply - just rub on the lids and blend with a brush or your finger! They set pretty fast so you have to blend rather quickly. Lasting power is amazing and they are fabulous under powder shadows. Surprisingly, I don't think I own a shade like this at least not anymore. It kind of reminds me of MAC's Expensive Pink with less gold and more of a pink finish. 26E is a beautiful metallic peach-pink. The finish almost looks like a duo-chrome. I'm so in love with this shade. On my undertone, I seem to bring the pink undertones out. A lot of splash in the water or catching a few rays on the beach won't make this shadow budge!
  • mark The Last Straw Hat: I love me a sexy hat especially to hide my bed head. Can I tell you how many mornings I have thrown on a hat to drop off my son at the bus?? To give you even more protection from the sun, a hat (and I'm not talking about a baseball cap) will keep those harsh rays from sucking out your youth! I love this floppy one from mark by Avon (but not liking the price - I don't think I've ever paid that much for a hat!).
What are your beach essentials?

Products were sent for editorial consideration (except Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray) and I truly love them!

The Body shop Lily Cole Collection

Lily Cole has recently collaborated with The Body Shop as she becomes the global ambassador for the brand. I was super excited to try this because Lily has such a light complexion I though Hey! finally makeup for us pale gals! :)

What I do like is that it doesn't just seem to be for the lighter skin tones but for a mixture! Take the lip and cheek tints - Comes in two shade; Sheer Pink (Pinch Me Pink) and Sheer Peach (Crazy for Coral) Both these shade would work on a variety of skin and if I ever came out with a makeup collection myself a peach and a pink blush would differently be a starting point.

Crazy in Coral  €15  - Top bare lips. Bottom swatch.

    Review:
*The large dome works perfectly for easy application on the cheek not so much for the lips. (A bit big)
*The colour is sheer and great for those "I don't wanna wear makeup but I do" days.
*Felt kind of greasy at the start and I worried about apply it on the cheek but it blended nicely perhaps not totally suitable for those with super oily skin though!
*I can see why this would be her favourite piece. On her skin I think this colour would be amazing but on darker skin I still think this would be awesome :)
*If you are a fan of multi-purpose then this product would be great option.

    Liquid eyeliner in violet, €13.95
Once again pretty great pick - this purple liner is just the right tone to work on different skin types from very light to dark. Also purple is one of those shades that work on so many different eye colours! Good choice Lily!!

    Review:
*Take a little time to set at first but once its sets it SET!
*The felt tip is definitely easy to use!
*The colour has a slight metallic finish which is cute and fun!

Top left - Think Pink Bottom - Go Violet Top right - Live Lilac Bottom right - Tint it Pink
Coolest thing is you can take the cudes out and move them around, at first I thought they were pigments but they are pressed! Just lovely love them!

    Review:

Think Pink - Not sure why its called "Think Pink" its not very pink, more coppery shade but that's in a name. Anyway its super cute I love it prefect for green and brown eyes.

Live Lilac -This is the sheerest of the shade on my skin anyway, on darker skin it would probably show up more. As with all the shades its like silk to work with.

Go Violet - Hmm...not sure about violet its a burgundy/aubergine shade but you know that's what she wanted to call it that's cool. This is my second favourite shade actually I LOVE it! Can't wait to do a smoky eye with it!!

Tint it Pink - Champagne with a hint of pink! This one is my favourite. Great highlight shade. Once again shimmy, silky and truly lovely to work with.

Check out what Lily has to say on this! :)

Check out how I used these products.

Beauty Event: Benefit Cosmetics Goes "Glamouriety" On Film!

A few weeks ago, Benefit Cosmetics put on an amazing event for the launch of their new movie "Glamouriety". I wasn't able to attend but my lovely friend, fellow blogger and makeup artist, Arabella Trasca, attended on my behalf. This is what she had to say - thanks Bella! Looks like you ladies had a fabulous time!

Moet, cupcakes and a movie..sounds like the perfect date. Also add a fun photo booth, drag queens, candy bar and popcorn - what could be more fun than that?

That is exactly what Benefit Cosmetics did for their VIP makeup artists and bloggers in the city.
The event was held at the Scotia Bank theater in Toronto. I imagined the event would have been more products focused but was pleasantly surprised to experience the true story of Benefit Cosmetics; identical twins who started it all more than 30 years ago. It was inspiring to see the success of two sisters that listened to their intuition and followed their heart to create this brand.

The movie was humorous and whimsical; the girls definitely know how to have fun.
“For us, Glamouriety is more than a film; it’s the story of our lives and what became Benefit’s business plan and inspiration," said Jane Ford. “We’re hoping the film will give all the beauty gals in the audience a better understanding of the wild ride our beauty career took us on, literally from farm to fame, and how we were able to do it the whole time with a lip-glossed smile on our face."

The night was filled with laughter and it was clear that everyone was having a great time. As the girls say “laughter is the best cosmetic”.
