Spring Beauty Review 2012: Lancome Rouge In Love

Lancome is giving your lips something to love. If you aren't familiar with the beauty posing in the ad (how could you not know?), it's none other than the young, gorgeous actress from Harry Potter, Emma Watson. This once ingenue has turned into quite the beauty and fashion muse. It was a smart move by Lancome to use a younger spokesmodel to target younger women and make them lipstick addicts.

I'm already a lipstick lover so it's not hard for me to fall madly in love with a lipstick. The Rouge In Love line is a selection of high pigmented, featherweight, lipsticks with at least 6 hours of wear. The collection is broken up into categories to suit your mood:

  • JOLIS MATINS: Fresh, light shades Subtle, soft brilliant colour. (Identified with the letter "M" in the shade number)
  • BOUDOIR TIME: Flashy, trendy shades Bright colour reflection. (Identified with the letter "B" in the shade number)
  • TONIGHT IS MY NIGHT: Deep, head spinning shades Deep lacquered effect, luminous colour. (Identified with the letter "N" in the shade number)

  •

I got to try Midnight Rose, a bold fuchsia rose. This lipstick falls into the "N" category. The lipsticks have a lot of pigment, but the texture is very light and airy. I wore this for my Christmas dinner (late review!) and it lasted fairly long - until dessert - with little fading. I'm not a huge fan of the rose scent, but I love the colour so I'm willing to wear it. It's not intoxicating and eventually fades. The silver metal packaging is pretty compact and just beautiful.

I love the shade of course and opted for a fuchsia lip rather than the typical red for the holidays. This of course will be a popular shade for Spring. A bold shade looks better with neutral eye, black liner or no liner and lots of mascara. In this case, I'm wearing my falsies from Velour Lashes in "You Complete Me". I think for Spring/Summer I'll skip the black liquid liner and keep the eyes really clean with a bright lip.

Here's a closer look of Midnight Rose. Isn't it pretty? To view swatches of the complete collection, visit Karla Sugar!

Lancome Rouge in Love Lipstick retails for $30 CAD and are sold at department stores all across North America. Have you tried the Rouge in Love collection? Love it? Hate it? Want it?

Spring Beauty Review 2012: Dior New Look

Could Natalie Portman be anymore stunning? I love that one of my favourite actresses is the spokesmodel for one of my favourite beauty brands!

Dior's New Look collection features new packaging, but the shades bring you back to Christian Dior's first runway show. It's a mix of the old and new and the results are beautiful!

If you've never tried Dior's eye shadow quints you must. The colours are gorgeous and the finish is stunning. I only own 4 palettes, but I need more. From one palette, you can create multiple looks and mix with other shadows in your stash.

Dior 5 Couleurs Eye Shadow Palette in Royal Khaki ($60 CAD): I love, love this palette. It's a neutral with a twist that can easily make a few different smokey eyes. Unfortunately, my camera is ka-putz right now so I can't post any swatches but you can view them on Escentual.com. There are 3 shimmery shades - khaki-gold, white, and silvery-grey. The black and khaki green in the middle have a semi-matte finish with a soft sheen. It's a great neutral to have in your kit because you can mix it with a lot of other shades. I've done a day look using just the gold or khaki green on the lids and lining and accenting with the black. I've also done a smokey eye using the gold and the silvery-grey with the black. Love it! It's such a versatile palette! Oh, and this is Natalie's favourite palette - enough said.

Dior 5 Couleurs Eye Shadow Palette in Bleu de Paris ($60 CAD): I love this palette based on the name alone. Mr. Dior's inspiration for this palette was the blue sky overlooking the beautiful city that he loved so much - Paris. This Makeup Junkie will soon be enjoying the same blue sky he once did - in a few weeks!!! EEEK! Beyond excited! Yes, you will be seeing posts dedicated to Paris coming up - the clothes, the makeup - oh what to bring!

Alright, lets get back on track! I love the mix of smokey blue, navy blue, silvery-blue, and baby blue. If you want to get away from the typical smokey eye, try a deep navy one. Gorgeous! Blues really make the whites of the eyes pop and make brown eyes really stand out. To see swatches, visit Escentual.com

Palettes also available in Grege and Rose Porcelain.

Diorshow New Look Mascara ($28.50 USD): To celebrate the cult classic mascara, Diorshow, Dior has come out with a newer version featuring a smaller brush. Dior started the fat mascara brush trend, but they've scaled it down to be able to coat each lash. New Look mascara also has Lash Multiplier TM serum treatment formula that thickens, separates, and extends the lashes.

I was really hopeful that this mascara would be a new fave. Diorshow never worked for me and the brush was way to big for my eyes. I don't know if the formula was just too heavy, but it would weigh my lashes down and never held its curl. The waterproof version did the same thing and smudged like crazy. New Look didn't smudge on me, but again it didn't lift my lashes. It did make my lashes look thicker, but my lashes are stick straight and need more lift than volume. What I did love was the brush. It made coating each lash very easy. The pointed tip also made it easier to coat the bottom the lashes. Overall, not a must-have mascara for me, but if you're not lash challenged like I am you might love this! Also available in Brown and Blue.

Beauty Review: Maybelline Super Stay 14 HR Lipstick & 10 HR Stain Gloss

How many times do you apply your lipstick or lipgloss over and over in a day? For me I’d have to say at least about 3-4 times sometimes even 5!  But with Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hour Lipstick and Super Stay 10 Hour Stain Gloss it was a lot less than that!  I got to try out a few of these and I must say that I’m pretty impressed with their staying power.  Find out what I liked and didn’t like about these lippies!

    Super Stay 14 HR Lipstick
“Meet the 14HR lipstick that won’t weight you down.  Super rich colour with super staying power.  No dragging.  No drying.  No letdowns at all.”

I’d have to say that I was very impressed with these lipsticks.  The above description says it all.  I loved that when I applied it on it glided on effortlessly.  The consistency is not creamy but just really smooth.  I guess you can say it is a little slippery but not messy at all!  The lipstick settles really quickly on the lips but is not overly drying and does not settle into the fine lines or cracks.  The colour payoff is amazing!  The colours are rich and true to the actual lipstick in the tube.  Two colours that I got to try were 030 Never Ending Nude and 065 Ravishing Rouge.  I’m a nude lipstick junkie so I was excited to try Never Ending Nude.  But when I opened the lipstick I was a little disappointed to see shimmers in there as I’m not a fan of shimmery or glittery lipstick.  I thought I’d give it a try anyway and I must say that I actually really like how it looks on my lips.  I think this has changed my view on shimmery lips and I may be open to buying more shimmery colours.  Ravishing Rouge is a beautiful typical red lipstick.  You can probably find this same colour in other brands but with this one you get a really long lasting effect.

    Neverending Nude, Ravishing Rouge

I’m not sure if these actually last 14 hours like Maybelline claims but they did last at least 8 with me with probably 1 or 2 touch ups mostly after eating a meal or sipping on something to drink.  Even after eating or drinking the lipstick gave me a nice stain on the lips that managed to stay on there for at least another day!  I even had to scrub my lips with a toothbrush just to get the stain off!  That’s how crazy long lasting these are!  The downside of this lipstick would have to be its smell.  I can’t help but be reminded of cough syrup every time I put it on.  But as the day goes on I guess I get use to the smell.  Other than the smell these lipsticks are awesome!

Super Stay 10 HR Stain Gloss
“Lasting colour.  Vibrant sheen.  Meet the first-ever 10HR stain gloss.  Shine enhancing formula glides on lightweight colour that won’t dry out.”

I’d have to say that these stain glosses remind me a lot like the Korres Liquid Lipsticks.  Both have that same cooling sensation when applying it on and both have the same texture.  I would describe it’s consistency as a thin liquid cream.  Maybelline Super Stay 10 HR Stain Gloss does not settle into fine lines and is not drying as well.  It also doesn’t feel like you have anything on the lips.  It’s almost like having a popsicle stain on your lips but with awesome colour payoff.  The colours I tried were 100 Pink Plush, 130 Refreshing Red and 140 Ruby Indulgence.  A lot of the colours look very similar to each other and I kinda wish there were was a bit more variety.  Perhaps a nude would be nice.

Plush Pink, Refreshing Red, Red Indulgence

These stains were really hard to come off!

One thing I absolutely love is the the way Maybelline’s Stain Gloss smells.  They all have the same smell which reminds me of sweet candy.  But here’s the downside they do NOT taste like candy which I really hate.  If you decide to get these try really hard not to lick your lips or you’re in for some disappointment.  The stains taste really bitter which is a total bummer.  It’s a good think I barely had to touch up with these cause I could not stand the taste!  Man if it weren’t for the taste of these I’d probaby go ahead and pick up some more.  But if you can get past the awful taste, go knock yourself out and get them!

How To Choose the Right Concealer

Right from {theGlow.com} comes Dr. Jessica Wu's strategies on how to choose the right concealer. Try not to "conceal" your excitement as you read on HA! ; )
My patients often ask me which concealer they should be using. The answer is, It depends on your skin type, budget, and what you’re trying to hide. Whether the problem is dark under-eye circles, melasma, or sun spots, there’s a concealer that will do the trick. Here are some of my faves:
If your under-eye skin is thin and the circles aren’t too dark, look for a liquid concealer with light-diffusing particles. A liquid formula is less likely to crease and flake, and the reflecting particles (usually minerals like mica) help brighten the area. Try Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Éclat ($40 at department stores) or Maybelline's new Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer (about $8 at drugstores). Because the coverage these products offer is sheer to light, you may need to build it up in layers to get the amount of coverage you need.
If your under-eye circles are very dark or if you want to hide red or brown spots, use a cream concealer. Because cream fomulas are thicker than liquids, apply the concealer in thin layers to help minimize creasing. If you have dry skin, use moisturizer first. Try Fresh Umbrian Clay Absolute Concealer, a creamy formula with hydrating algae extract ($22 at fresh.com). I also like Revlon Age Defying Moisturizing Concealer, which contains glycerin and hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin. As an added bonus, it contains zinc oxide for SPF 25 protection to help prevent further darkening (about $10 at drugstores).
If you need heavy-duty coverage (tattoos, birthmarks, serious sun damage), look for a highly pigmented concealer. I use Clé de Peau — it's pricey, but it's intensely pigmented and it stays put. The stick lasts me almost a year ($70 at barneys.com). A makeup artist friend of mine swears by Amazing Concealer by Amazing Cosmetics. It’s also highly pigmented and is super-emollient and waterproof, so she uses it on her clients for photo shoots ($28 to $42 at amazingcosmetics.com). To hide tattoos, try a heavy-duty, long-wearing concealer like Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer, which is budge-proof and waterproof ($25 at Sephora).

Gorgeous Greens with BFTE and Urban Decay

Hello! I'm back again with a pretty little green look I did for Saint Patrick's Day!
I've always had a soft spot for greens; back when I first started experimenting more with makeup as an older teen, green was the first color I felt comfortable wearing in public. I kept it subtle, usually in the form of a cheap green eyeliner or tiny tube of cream shadow, courtesy of oldschool Wet N' Wild or NYC. For some reason I've always considered green to be almost a neutral, maybe because it's the color of grass and leaves.. it seemed earthy and natural.
Anyway, I really love how this look turned out; in fact I was almost giddy! Please keep reading for more info and don't forget to click the pics! :)

    Products:
-Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Candlelight
-Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On pencil in Junkie (shimmering teal all over lid as base)
Beauty from the Earth shadows in:
-Atomic Teal (deep teal on lid)
-Gooseberry (shimmering light golden lime green blended out from Atomic Teal)
-Very Vanilla (matte vanilla shade all around edges and on browbone)
-Ornamental (pale gold, just a tiny bit above Gooseberry, mostly on outer browbone)
-Black (matte black over black liner on upper lid)
-Mississippi Mud (matte deep brown on brow)
-Truffle (matte medium brown on brow)
-Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On pencil in Perversion (upper liner and waterline)

-Cover Girl Lash Perfection mascara in Very Black
    -Hard Candy Glamoflauge in Light

Maximize this pic and look closely in my pupil... see anything creepy? O_o
I didn't go out that night so I only did one eye :)

I've been wanting to do this look for a few weeks; I discovered how good these colors looked together while picking which makeups to pack for vacation, and then I got sick ON vacation so I couldn't do it sooner. It turned out so well that I want to recreate it as a full-face look, maybe with a peachy lip or something. I've also been asked for a tutorial so that will probably be in the works as well; maybe even a video tutorial? :O
Old pic from 2006 of me wearing the green cream shadow I mentioned before; I've been trying to find a similar green ever since ;P

    Thanks for reading!<3

    "Share The Love"

Tomorrow I Will Be Uploading My "Share The Love" Winner Video! Yah

However these are some others that also really impressed me :)

    Arsenic and Old Lace

Hey there whipper snappers!!!! LOL So I am doing the makeup for a production in Salt Lake called Arsenic and Old Lace. It's a comedy about these little old ladies that lure old men into their B&B and end up killing them. I know it doesn't SOUND like a comedy but it's actually quite hilarious =D! This is a great look to do for Halloween as well don't you think? Would you like to see a tutorial on this? It's not too terribly time consuming but is a little creepy to forget you have the makeup on then look in the mirror....EEK!!!!!! ; D

Spring Beauty Review 2012: Get A Heavenly Glow With Benefit!

What can I say except that I'm a sucker for packaging. Luckily, the functionality and packaging of Benefit products are usually on par. Spring is when my skin starts to look its best again. It's fresher and more luminous looking and mostly thanks to beauty brands launching products around the same time that give you the perfect natural "glow".

Benefit Sun Beam ($30 CAD): Looking sun-kissed makes everyone look healthier don't you think? I love a lot of Benefit's liquid highlighters and stains and Sunbeam is right up there with the rest of them. This golden highlighter gives you a perfect sun-kissed look especially when mixed with your favourite bronzer. Dab it on the high planes of the cheeks, brow bone, and down the nose for a truly glow-y look. If you're normally oily, just dab in one or 2 areas max. Darker-skinned beauties might prefer this golden highlighter more than something pearly or champagne.

Benefit Hervana ($36 CAD): Do you believe in karma? I truly believe what comes around goes around! Put your halo on and get a heavenly flush with Benefit Hervana. The box includes 4 shades - lucky shell, divine peach, heavenly rose, and berry delight - that you swirl together for a perfect orchidblossom flush. On me, the combined hues give me a more soft berry-pink flush which I love. My swatch photo doesn't do it justice. I think berry and plumy shades are universally flattering and give your skin a healthy pop of colour. The overall finish has a subtle sheen, but not an overpowering shimmer which is nice. And can I say, I am loving the flip box packaging it comes in with mirror over the older boxes. It's a bit more kit friendly and not as bulky. The design of the box powders are fun to collect if you love cute packaging. I own almost all of Benefit's box powders. A definite must-have for Spring for me!

Benefit Hervana blended to not blended swatch.

What are your favourite products that give that "heavenly glow"?

Both products are available at Sephora locations and Sephora.com.

Products were sent for editorial consideration and I truly love them!
