Spring Beauty Review 2012: Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick

This Spring has been all about lips for me. As someone who is a mom and just pure lazy when it comes to myself, lip products are my BFF. Adding a pretty lip colour brightens up my face and I don't have to spend too much time applying it. And if the lippie is sheer and gorgeous it makes it that much easier!

Make Up For Ever first introduced Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick a while back and now they have come out with a new range of Rouge Artist Natural lipsticks that are sheer but delightfully pigmented. They are incredibly creamy and offer beautiful shine. Don't expect them to last as long as Rouge Artist Intense. You'll get a good 3-4 hours of wear out of them - I'm sure the darker shades last a bit longer. They come in a rainbow of colours and in satin and pearly finishes. You are bound to find 2 or 3 or 5 favourites!

Top to Bottom: N4, N20, and N35

I got to test out #N4 (pink beige), #N20 (iridescent pink-gold), and #N35 (iridescent orange-pink). N4 is such a pretty my-lips-but-better shade and should be an everyday staple for those that prefer a natural lip (this was one of my go-to shades in Paris!). It's the perfect mix of pink and beige and is the nude lip we all aspire to have. You don't get that I'm-a-dead-corpse lip which is just not flattering on anyone. N20 reminds me very much of NARS Orgasm just a bit pinkier. It's a gorgeous shade that looks amazing with both natural and colourful makeup. N35 is a juicy colour and screams summertime to me. It's a poppier shade that is very wearable because of it's sheer texture. All you need is a sun-kissed glow, this lippie and you're all set for summer!

There are many more shades I want to discover but these 3 are definitely ones to add to your stash! Have you tried any? What shades do you recommend?

Rouge Artist Intense Natural Lipstick retails for $22 CAD and includes 50 shades, 18 which are exclusive to Sephora stores nationwide and 32 shades that can be purchased through Make Up For Ever ProLoft or by visiting makeupforever.ca.

Products were sent for editorial consideration and I truly love them!

YSL 30 Day Skin Care Challenge Week 1: Forever Youth Liberator

Bob Dylan sang it best, "Forever young, forever young, may you stay forever young." For centuries, this has been an on-going quest; to look young forever. Unfortunately, "forever" in a physical sense doesn't exist but we can sure try and make it last thanks to the super geniuses in beauty!

For the first time ever, this Makeup Junkie (along with other beauty bloggers) is committing to YSL's 30 day skin care challenge. I'm putting their Forever Youth Liberation skin care line to the test. It's designed for us 30-somethings and up. Here's the low-down on why this could change the future of your skin care regime!

Forever Youth Liberator is based on Glycobiology. Glyco-wha? Glycobiology is a revolutionary science that studies the role of glycans in skin regeneration (which YSL is an exclusive beneficiary). Glycans are naturally present in our body that are found commonly on the surface of cells. They are like little communicators between cells making sure our skin keeps regenerating its youth! As we age, these glycans diminish (insert sad face).

Glycanactif is a patented complex of 3 glycans that will unlock that youthful skin we all have (under the layers of dull, wrinkly skin). This is the active ingredient present in the Forever Youth Liberator range.

Forever Youth Liberator Serum: The star product of the range! It contains the highest levels of Glycanactif. Gives the skin instant radiance, hydration and wrinkle reduction (within 1 month).

Forever Youth Liberator Eye Creme: De-puffs, illuminates, gets rid of wrinkles, and brightens dark circles.

Forever Youth Liberator SPF 15 Creme: Protects the skin from sun exposure, adds radiance, and gets rid of wrinkles. Suitable for Normal to Dry skin.

Ok, brace yourself. For the love of blogging, I am posting photos of my face - NAKED!! If you stop reading my blog because of this I understand. You will have to see naked face photos for 1 month! Ahh!

This is me pre-YSL-Forever-Youth-Liberator. No, I'm not "smizing". I'm trying to manage a smile, but it pains me (why didn't I wear my hair down?). I've been having a case of adult acne so please forgive me. And please don't knock my brows - I'm trying to grow them in!

That's a little better. I'm still not thrilled to have no makeup on, but at least my hair is down! This is after 1 week. I've been applying the serum first day and night, eye cream at night, and day cream during the day. It's hard to get the same lighting and to really notice a difference after 1 week, but I really love how the products feel on my skin. The serum is nice and light and when paired with the day cream really gives my skin a luminous finish. My skin feels so soft! I have noticed my skin has a smoother texture especially near my nose just under my eyes and my blemishes seem less prominent!

As for the eye cream, I have high hopes for it because it claims after a month my dark circles will be less noticeable (don't all eye creams claim that?). As you can tell, there's really no change in my dark circles. But I do love how it feels around my eyes. It does illuminate the area and makes it look glowy.

Well, that rounds up Week 1! Stay tuned next week to see more of my naked face hopefully looking twice as youthful!

Products were sent for editorial consideration and so far loving them!

Day 56 Becky's Patriotic Makeup Tutorial

Disclaimer: there are many things I would do differently that I have learned over the last year (this is from 2011) I have tried to type in my corrections and advice along with the original photos. Enjoy and please send us a photo if you try this, we'd love to see it!!
-Becky (and Emily)

Step one : fresh face and then do your foundation/concealer or whatever you like. (I waited a while, forgive my naked face for the photos!)

Step 2, make a plan! I used Beauty From The Earth Mineral shadows.

Step 3 after using primer over face, Use NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Eye Pencil in: Milk

4: Sticker stars!

5: (Should have started with the Red crease, but here I began with my base color.Peacock.)

Added red to my crease. and added more peacock to my lids.
Then 6: start adding Milk pencil to bottom lid area.

7: Using a fine brush, DAB/PAT red/dark pink shadow in bottom lid area. note: Black area = auto red-eye correction!

There should be no black eyeshadow whatsoever.

8: Using Blue liquid eyeliner from mark. girl in Blue Chrome, add blue stripes and winged line to top and bottom area.

9: Adding more definition, don't be afraid to thicken the eyeliner.

10: Remove stars and using white eyeliner, add a little to the vacant area.
Touching up more of the bottom red, and added some peacock to the bottom eyeliner. See the green sheen

11: Using white eyeliner, add definition to the outer wings, around the red.

12: personal choice- using the Blue Chrome eyeliner, I added some drawn stars. I could have done it on a little paper and pressed the shape on while wet, rather than drawing in the mirror. xD

13: Don't forget your mascara and curled eyelashes. Also defining your eyebrows is a good idea. Using Spellbound, a dark blue- I defined my crease over the blue, and the eyeliner a little better

14: I used False eyelashes for this, but in the end they weren't much different from my natural ones.

15: For my lips, I consequently used a white base and then put red over it, this made my lips look more full, we also added red glitter which really made it dazzle. *NOTE BY EMILY: The red lippie is #911D "Stoplight Red" by Wet N' Wild. I know you wanted to ask! ;)*
OK firecracker! you're ready!

Have a great summer and God Bless America!

Alice

When I announced the winner of the JC Photography free photo shoot I was so excited that it was going to Alice. I had never met her but her cute voice came through in her comments of why she wanted to win. She was about to give birth to a cute little smooshy baby and would want pictures of said smoosh. My heart hurt today when I learned that Alice had passed away after complications after giving birth to her sweet little baby girl. I cried and cried thinking about this precious little spirit that would never know what her mommy went through for her here on this Earth. I share Alice and her families faith in knowing that they will meet and love each other as mother and daughter on the other side of this life but for now Alice has been called to other work. I wanted to express my sincere condolences to her family and friends. I have been given permission by her husband to share a little bit about Alice and to post information about the Alice Hansen Family Fund. It is a fund to help cover expenses of funeral, medical bills and the cost of raising a young family without a mommy. This is what her beautiful obituary said:

"Alice was born August 22, 1978 in Winter Park, Florida, the eldest child of Gary and Davideen Demske. She grew up in Coppell, Texas and studied piano performance in London, UK at the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music where she received a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, and Graduate Performance degree, respectively. She married her sweetheart Kurt Charles Hansen in the Mount Timpanogos LDS temple on January 2, 2007. She finished her Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2008 while pregnant with their first child.
She is survived by her husband Kurt, and three beautiful children: Kurt Charles Hansen Jr. ("Charlie"), 3; Edward Gary Hansen, 1; and Frances Pauline Hansen, 1 week. She is also survived by her parents, a sister Hilary, a brother Arthur, and many relatives and friends, all of whom loved and admired her very much.
Although Alice had many extraordinary musical accomplishments, she was first and foremost a devoted wife and full-time mother. She loved families and sang the hymn "Families Can Be Together Forever" every night to her little boys. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, always serving devotedly in her callings. She was filled with pure love for everyone she knew, and was passionate about their joy and success more than her own. She always wanted to do the right thing in whatever she did. She loved to read, be with her family, and to spend time and go on walks with her husband."

Dr. Alice Hansen was also an active and accomplished international performer and teacher. Alice held a Doctorate
of Musical Arts degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she held the Gladys Casford
Memorial Scholarship. She also held a Master's degree from the Royal College of Music in London and a
Bachelor of Music degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London. While attending the Royal Academy
she was awarded the Eric Brough Prize and a special distinction from the principal, the Elsie Horne Prize.
Dr. Hansen's principal teachers included Samuel Wong, Bryce Morrison, Martin Roscoe, Gordon
Fergus-Thompson, and Dr. Robert Weirich. Dr. Hansen's performing accomplishments included winning the Ribble Valley International Piano Competition, the Jacques Samuel International Piano Competition (RAM), participating in the Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia, and a recent concert tour of Wales in the United Kingdom. She was talented and accomplished to say the LEAST!!! My heart feels so heavy for her family for such a great loss. Jenelle and I still felt that her family should have a photo shoot to celebrate family and these beautiful faces. Here are some shots of this special family.
Such a precious sweet baby girl!
Look at that big man =).
An eternal family is a happy one. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
What a sweet little face.

I know that we can stand together and show our support in any way we can. If we cannot donate, we can pray, if we do not believe in that then we can send our strength to her little family with good thoughts and deeds toward others. If you can donate please visit this site. And if you have little ones (or big ones) of your own give them a big hug and kiss and tell them how much you love them and how grateful you are to be in their lives. I've been giving mine extras everyday, I can't seem to stop sometimes. To learn more about what I and Alice's family believes in as far as life after death click here and never be afraid to ask me anything. We love you Hansen family!!!

Days 53-55: Happy Memorial Day weekend!

Hey guys, happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far :) I'll be without internet access until after the holiday but I just wanted to plug again about my entry in the Makeupbee contest. ;)

First of all, thank you so much to every single person who has voted for me; I've never made it this far in one of these contests and I owe it all to you guys. I'm so grateful for your support and even if I don't place, I'm amazed to have gotten as far as this so THANK YOU!<33
The contest still has a little over a week to go and then the top 10 looks will be judged by OCC and 3 winners will be chosen. I'd love to keep my place so I have a chance at getting in the judging round; I could use a few more votes which is why I'm posting this, in case I missed any of you ;)

I hate feeling like I'm bugging people by promoting this so much, but.. just to have made it this far I feel like I could go even further with your support. I'm really excited to see the outcome!!

Thank you guys and please have a safe holiday weekend!<33

From Paris...With Love...

My first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower up close.

If you've been to Paris, then you'll agree it isn't hard to fall in love with this beautiful city. It's been almost a month since we've been back and I find my self still looking back at the photos remembering the many amazing moments. We were gone for 11 days so it's hard to say what my favourite part was because it was all my favourite part! What I learned is that you really can't take a bad photo there even when it's raining (which it did - A LOT)! The architecture is just stunning and so full of history. My husband is a big photography buff so it was just pure eye candy. Everything from the department stores to the subway stations are all a work of art. Can't wait to decorate our home with all our amazing photos!

Here are a few (or a lot) of my favourite moments. I will post my beauty finds in the next post and more on Parisian beauty.

This was my first day in Paris. My big smile says it all. Pure bliss at the Seine with the Eiffel Tower in the background. Wearing one of my new favourite lipsticks - MAC So Chaud (more on this later but feel free to discuss).

Famous rich hot cocoa made with real chocolate from Angelina's and Laduree macarons which we enjoyed in the lush gardens of the Tuileries. A definite must-do if you're a foodie like me!

Paris from above. The break-taking view from the Basilica Sacre Couer. No one told me we had to go up 300 stairs, but it was so worth the almost-heart-attack!

If you love the french film Amelie as much as I do you should definitely have a cafe at the very restaurant she worked at in the film! The cafe is in one of my favourite areas of Paris, Monmartre.

The legendary, Ernest Hemingway, sat here! Well, not this exact seat but it was one of his regular hang-outs.

The beautiful cobblestone streets of Paris...love.

The loveliest brunch spot in Le Marais - Le Loir Dans La Theiere. Loved this area and definitely the place to be on a Sunday. Most things close down on Sundays in Paris, but you'll find a lot of shops and restaurants open in Marais. I'm incognito in this fun chapeau I scored at a cute stand in Monmartre!

The most spectacular high-end department store you'll ever step into - Galeries Lafayette! It looked like a historic theatre hall in there. Seriously, Holt Renfrew on steroids. Do you see the Dior counter? It towered over all the other counters - guess we know who's boss there!

If you're ever in Paris, you must - I repeat - MUST visit the Sephora store on the Champs Elysee! It's the mecca of all Sephora stores. It's so grandiose and it has a red carpet yo!

I just loved seeing carousels all around the city. It made me feel like a kid again! They just add such whimsy and charm!

Introducing the hubby! There's the Arc de Triomphe in the background. Loved walking along the Champs at night!

She's just beautiful at night isn't she? I swear we took a million photos...she was just that lovely.

The Louvre is so huge and fantastic there's no way you can see all of it in just one day! You'll be in awe of how much history is in one place like the famous Mona Lisa. She was a superstar with crowds of people fighting to take her photo! Oh, but beware of pickpocketers! These warnings were everywhere!

There are so many more photos but this is just a taste for all your Paris lovers. Someone actually said to me he/she has no desire to go to Paris. To each their own, but that's just absurd. I say don't knock it until you've tried it! It really is a romantic city and how can you not feel that way when there is so much beautiful art and erotic statues everywhere! Yes, there are lots of naked statues! And if you love wine, cheese, delectable desserts, baguettes, and croissants just like me you won't be disappointed. How do the French stay so thin? They walk everywhere! It's certainly easy to get lost, but that's kind of the fun part of discovering Paris. We saw a lot of the city, but of course there are still a million things we didn't get to do/see. Ah well, just means another trip is in order!

The one thing I won't miss - the stinky subways that always smelled like pee! Gag.

Have you been to Paris? What did you love?? Do share!

Stay tuned for the beauty stuff!

Day 52: Sky blue lips w/ OCC Lip Tars

Day 52: Today I played around with some of my OCC Lip Tars because I felt like creating a sky blue lip. (Don't ask me why, I just felt like it lol.) I used Rx (blue), Feathered (white), and a teeny bit of Tarred (black) to darken the outer corners but I think it mostly blended away anyway. ;P
Not bad for my first time mixing lip tar, eh? I love different shades of blue together, so pretty!
This was my tissue after blotting, lol. I thought it looked cool.

Just a reminder for those of you who may not know, I'm currently entered in a contest on Makeupbee sponsored by OCC and the prize is LIP TARS! I'd love it if you could go Like my entry to help me stay up in the top 10! If you know anyone who has a Makeupbee or might be interested in creating an account, refer them as well! It's a great site for makeup inspiration, such amazingly talented artists on there for real.

You can vote for my entry HERE! Just click the LIKE button under the heart on the top left side.
Thanks!<3
