Contest Look: Earth Tones (Virgo)

Hey guys! :)

I recently entered another competition on Makeupbee; this one is inspired by Zodiac signs. My birthday is September 10 so I'm a Virgo. I never paid much attention to horoscope type stuff but I think the constellations are really interesting. (If you go by personality traits though, I am a typical Virgo, haha.)

I did a little research for inspiration and discovered that Virgo's element is Earth, our colors are green and brown, and our metal is Quicksilver. I tried to incorporate these things in my look. All the eyeshadows I used are from BFTE Cosmetics; you can see a step-by-step picture tutorial HERE.

I had a lot of trouble getting this entry up and the tutorial finished; for one thing their site was having issues with uploading photos for several days. I also don't have use of my laptop anymore, it needs serious repairs and I'm not sure when that will happen. (This is also why I haven't done much blogging lately.)

I didn't have Aperture to edit my photos so if it looks a bit different than my usual, that's why. (Aperture is so amazing I've become dependent on it, lol.) That's also why there's only one photo, I just didn't have any patience left after finishing this one. ;P

Contest Look: The Daily Glamour and BFTE

Hey there! Here's a look I did for my friend Autumn's makeup contest; it's the first birthday anniversary of her Facebook page The Daily Glamour!

Since it's a birthday themed contest, she said to do something FUN, so I thought "What's more fun and birthday-ish than a SPARKLY UNICORN?? :)

I drew this on paper and used Fyrinnae's Pixy Epoxie to stick it to my skin; I then drew around the edges and added the mane, tail, and horn. It has clumsy legs.. what can I say, I'm no artist, lol.

Here's the prototype which I did on my arm; notice it's pink.. I hadn't come up with my final color scheme yet. I used NYX lip pencil to trace around the edges (I think it was Dolly Pink) and BFTE's "Prissy", a baby pink color, to fill it in. The glitter is NYX Candy Glitter liner in Crystal with "Snow" patted on top. This looks better than the one on my face; it was much easier to draw on my arm.

I'm not wearing much face product so I had to smooth out my skin with Aperture because it was looking pretty bumpy with the sunlight I took these pics in.
I wanted to do something fun and artistic but still keep the "beauty" aspect of the makeup; if you were to take away the unicorn (and maybe the crazy lashes/stars) this look would still be pretty and wearable. Those are the kind of looks I like to do :)

I know the whole thing is over the top but I was really channeling my inner 5-year-old; this pretty much embodies me as a little girl, lol. I would have loved to have this on my face for my birthday! (Hey, it's sparkles and unicorns.. who wouldn't?) ;)

Nakey face ;P

Lava Momma is a really bright hot pink color, but blended a little with the teal it gave a purplish cast in some pics; I also used Whisper over the pink, which has a violet sheen so that gave the appearance of more purple as well. I used a black base on the lid which made the green/teal iridescence in Peacock really stand out; the color and sheen reminds me a lot of the shell of a Japanese beetle. ;) I tried to keep this look simple because I wanted to do a little step-by-step tutorial for it, which you will be able to find on my Makeupbee profile :)

Look: "Papillon" with BFTE Cosmetics

Today I bring you a look that I've been planning for a while and was finally able to do this past Friday; it's based off a drawing my sister Becky did. I loved the colors so much I asked her to design me a makeup look from it:

 I love my Tick:Tock bases, they are nice and sticky and really grab the shadows! Think NYX jumbo pencils but much less greasy ;) I'm also loving my BFTE Pro Color shadows, they are so easy to use.. I literally patted them on my lids and barely had to blend or anything.. I was like "Huh..." lol. It felt odd not blending a lot but I didn't want to mess it up. xD

I took this pic with the little camera, I think it shows the shape of the shadow really well. For once I did good shape! Finally! haha xD

 Sorry for the awkward watermarks.. I've recently become hyper-aware of some unscrupulous people stealing makeup looks and using them on websites without giving a shred of credit to the true artist. It angers me and while there's not a lot I can do if someone is determined to steal photos, I can at least try and discourage them lol.

Also, because I would feel weird if I don't mention it: I was a bit more liberal with editing these pictures than I usually allow myself to be. I smoothed my skin some because I was having a really bad skin day and my foundation applied completely wonky and looked pretty bad. All I did was remove blemishes and diffuse some of the rough texture that was showing in the photos. I also did a bit more contrast since I took the photos in different lighting and each one was different. (Rest assured that the shadows were really this bright in person!) I had fun with it and I hope you can appreciate these images because I worked hard to keep the balance between art and reality, if you know what I mean. :)

I hope you enjoyed this look as much as I did creating it! I'm happy with the way it turned out, the shadows were stunningly bright in person and the lashes really added the dramatic flare I wanted. After I took these pics I wore this look out to clean the church, lol. Luckily no one was around to see me except my siblings. ;3

Day 50: Sun Goddess (Makeupbee contest)

I didn't cut off my chin on purpose.. I was using my macro lens and even at full arm's length it can't get my whole face, lol. it takes such nice detail though x3

Haul and swatches from Tick:Tock Cosmetics

 Day 43: As promised, here's a little haul and some swatches of my first experience ordering from Tick:Tock Cosmetics! I ordered during their recent first birthday sale and got all their Infinity Shadow Bases. The nude one is brand new and I'm excited to play with it!

My order came wrapped in cute birthday tissue paper :3

When I opened it up, all these adorable little confetti shapes fell out! I love these<3

A free sample of First Birthday, a pretty silvery color which is hard to describe so I probably shouldn't try lol. It's very pretty though :)

I just got these on Saturday so I haven't gotten to try them much besides swatching, but the bases are very sticky and pigmented. At least the white and nude are; the black was very firm and smooth on top so I had a bit of trouble getting the product on my finger. Maybe if I break into it or warm it up a bit first, or maybe use a firm brush to get more product..

I did use the nude base yesterday when I did a little eyeshadow for church; I used Chinovi's "Business" on my lids and then put just a tiny smudge of the nude base in my crease and blended it in with my finger. It helped to define my crease, made my browbones look higher and my eyes look bigger while still looking natural, not like eyeshadow. I've never had much luck with using eyeshadow in my crease so I was very excited about this! I really liked the effect :)

I can't wait to try these babies as eyeshadow bases! I shall post more of my experimentations soon!
