Look: "Papillon" with BFTE Cosmetics

Hi there, hope everyone is enjoying what's left of the weekend! :)
Today I bring you a look that I've been planning for a while and was finally able to do this past Friday; it's based off a drawing my sister Becky did. I loved the colors so much I asked her to design me a makeup look from it:
I tried to capture the essence of her design in my look, I hope I succeeded. What do you think, does it look like the paper? :D
 Products:

Eyes:
-TFSI Candlelight
-Tick:Tock Infinity Shadow Base in Milky Way (white)
BFTE Cosmetics shadows in:
-Hydrobius (aqua on outer corner/lower lashline)
-Kraz (green on middle lid)
-Ushakaron and Okul (mustard and canary yellows on inner third of lid)
-Soleil (pale metallic yellow on tearduct)
-Cornflower (baby blue to blend out Hydro on browbone)
-Very Vanilla (matte vanilla to blend edges)
-Butt Naked (shimmer vanilla highlight on browbone)
-Blue Bird (bright cobalt blue mixed w/ Mix & Fix, used wet as liner)
-Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On pencil in Radium (bright blue on waterline)
-Shu Uemura curler
-Cover Girl Lash Perfection mascara
-NYX "Blue Jay" Special Effects Lashes
Brows:
-Tick:Tock Infinity Eyeshadow Base (nude shade)
-BFTE eyeshadow in Patriot (matte navy blue)

Face/Cheeks:
-mark. primer
-Revlon Colorstay foundation (Ivory/Buff mix)
-mark. powder
Darling Girl Cosmetics (DGC) blushes in:
-Boy Crazy (contour)
-Secret Star (cheeks)
-Cheeky mixed with BFTE blush in First Kiss
-BFTE shadow in Butt Naked as highlight

Lips:
-MAC lip pencil in In Synch (pale pinky peach)
-NYX Mega Shine gloss in Sugar Pie
I love my Tick:Tock bases, they are nice and sticky and really grab the shadows! Think NYX jumbo pencils but much less greasy ;) I'm also loving my BFTE Pro Color shadows, they are so easy to use.. I literally patted them on my lids and barely had to blend or anything.. I was like "Huh..." lol. It felt odd not blending a lot but I didn't want to mess it up. xD
I took this pic with the little camera, I think it shows the shape of the shadow really well. For once I did good shape! Finally! haha xD
Sorry for the awkward watermarks.. I've recently become hyper-aware of some unscrupulous people stealing makeup looks and using them on websites without giving a shred of credit to the true artist. It angers me and while there's not a lot I can do if someone is determined to steal photos, I can at least try and discourage them lol.
Also, because I would feel weird if I don't mention it: I was a bit more liberal with editing these pictures than I usually allow myself to be. I smoothed my skin some because I was having a really bad skin day and my foundation applied completely wonky and looked pretty bad. All I did was remove blemishes and diffuse some of the rough texture that was showing in the photos. I also did a bit more contrast since I took the photos in different lighting and each one was different. (Rest assured that the shadows were really this bright in person!) I had fun with it and I hope you can appreciate these images because I worked hard to keep the balance between art and reality, if you know what I mean. :)

I hope you enjoyed this look as much as I did creating it! I'm happy with the way it turned out, the shadows were stunningly bright in person and the lashes really added the dramatic flare I wanted. After I took these pics I wore this look out to clean the church, lol. Luckily no one was around to see me except my siblings. ;3
Thanks so much for reading!<333

YSL 30 Day Skin Care Challenge Week 2: Forever Youth Liberator

If you've been following my blog then you know that I've committed to a 30 day skin care challenge thanks to YSL's Forever Youth Liberator line. Why did I commit to a whole month of showing my face naked? I blame it on my crazy love for beauty products and will try anything that will maintain the only thing I was blessed with - good skin. Sure, I have the odd adult acne flare ups and flakiness (ok some fine lines too), but for the most part I've got some pretty smooth texture. Don't hate (wink, smile).

Don't get me wrong though. I definitely have those days when I my skin can look sallow and lack luster like this week. The end of week 2 has been rough. I've been battling a cold since Monday (when you have kids your home becomes a germ fest - I know gross!). Although I haven't been feeling my bestest, I've been making an effort to give my skin some TLC with YSL's Forever Youth Liberator line. Just because I am sick, doesn't mean I want to look sick and I think I've been doing a good job of that. None of the mom's realized I was sick all week until I started coughing up a lung today (yes, I will be visiting the walk-in today).

Here's my naked face Week 2. What do think? See any changes? Gah, I think being sick has sucked the colour out of my skin. That and Toronto has seen only rain for the last week or so. And I promise to put a little more effort into my hair next week!

I haven't really noticed a change in the darkness of my under eye circles, but my pores do look smaller, my skin looks much smoother, and my fine lines near my eyes don't seem as noticeable. They look like they've been getting some plumping action (or maybe that's just some PMS bloating - oh ya that's happening too).

Stay tuned for Week 3 where I'm hoping I'll be feeling much healthier than this week and looking thrice as beautiful!

Makeup For Photos

Beware the moon face!!

I ain't talking about the faces of the moon, No werewolves here ladies!

I am talking about the highlighted white face mess that comes with the photos and the dreaded FLASH!!

Here is me a few years ago, before I knew much about photographs and make-up, I just assumed I was really pale like a ghost but no!

In this picture I am wearing a highlighted setting powder which gives my skin a white glow (hence the name Moon Face)

Obviously if you take a picture up close with a heavy flash its gonna mess up your face but if it taken at arms length and you still look like a moon then its probably your make-up.

The causes:
1. High SPF
2. Shimmer
3. 100% Silica
4. Sheer light make-up

1. The SPF ingredient that causes flashback is Titanium Dioxide. However you really only need to avoid any foundation that makes SPF claims. Low levels may be "flash" safe.
Titanium Dioxide added to zinc oxide to create an SPF factor. If you see "zinc oxide" in the foundation's ingredient listing you might have a problem.

Most mineral foundation have SPF because minerals are natural sun protection, so read the ingredients. Avoid Titanium Dioxide and  zinc oxide which true mineral foundation will usually have. Day to day is fine but it wont work with flash at night.

2. Shimmer and light reflection can also mess up the photos for you, Matte foundation will always look best. However if you want to add highlight to your face opt for a cream highlighter and only apply it to the high points of the face.

3. 100% Silica powders like ELF and Makeupforever HD powder can cause that white flash. Elf HD isn't as bad a MUFE because it not 100% Silica. You could possible get away with a small amount but its hard to know how much it too much without testing it and once you go over you can't take it off without taken all your make-up off and starting over.

4. You will also have to wear a little bit extra make-up because flash is like an xray for make-up. It might look like you are wearing a little too much but with flash you will look just right!

Look: Gold-Foiled Lips

I'm not sure where this post falls in the 90 Day Challenge, I guess I got too messed up to continue lol. I'll just try to keep posting as much as I can but I think it will be nice to get back to quality posts rather than trying to post any old junk every day. I'm a quality over quantity girl, in case you haven't noticed. ;)
This is a look I did for fun yesterday because I wanted to play with lips. I decided randomly to do a foiled gold lip and the rest sort of evolved from there. I kind of wanted it to be slightly fairyish but it didn't turn out looking like anything extraordinary. I also had in mind the sort of film-noir silent movie style but I don't know if it's visible.
No flash.
I think this is closer color to real life, you can see how bronzey the lower-left outer corner looks here.

Products:

Skin/Cheeks:
-Mehron Celebre hD Pro creme foundation (applied better this time but still experimenting)
-Darling Girl Cosmetics "Secret Star" blush (cheeks to temples)
-mark. Powder Buff in Nude (forehead)
-mark. powder to set

Eyes:
-UDPP
-UD "Zero" pencil (on eyes)
-BFTE "Very Vanilla" (lids and browbones)
-BFTE "Jumping Bean" (crease)
-BFTE "Mississippi Mud" (crease)
-Shu Uemura lash curler
-Cover Girl Lash Perfection mascara
-Ardell #110 Black (these look so similar to my natural lashes!)
-Sephora white pencil (waterline)
-CS 88 Palette, medium and dark brown shadows (on brows, applied damp)

Lips:
-BFTE "Halo" (inner lips)
-BFTE "Dragon Slayer" (outer corners)
-Mon Ennui Pigment Potion for lips
-liquid concealer around lips

I still love Secret Star blush! It looks downright bubblegum in the baggie but after I apply it it turns into the sweetest natural flush.<3
I tried out the pigment potion I got from Mon Ennui for the first time and I have to say I really like it. There may be something similar one could use, maybe just a clear gloss even. But this stuff mixed well with the pigment, applied smoothly to my lips, and stayed on for the rest of the night even through eating, though there was a little fading, but the color was definitely still on my lips. I applied it with a stiff flat eyeliner brush and I like how the lips turned out, though it's hard to see the distinction in colors in these photos. The outer corners were much more bronzey in real life.
By the time I finished the look the setting sun was behind clouds so it was kind of dark. I edited these pics a bit more than I usually do, especially the second one which was taken without flash in my room and looked really dark/yellow. The first one was taken in front of the window with flash.

I didn't end up going away for the weekend so that's cool. Btw, my contest ends in less than 8 hours so if you still want to vote you're welcome to head over there and help keep me from getting bumped out of the top 10! ;)
Hope you're having a good weekend and thanks for reading!<3

Contest update: I need your help!!

Hey guys! I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend last week ;) I was away but I'm back, though I may have to go away again this weekend. v_v

Anyway... there's only 1 DAY LEFT in the MakeupBee/OCC Summer Lips contest!! I'm still in the 10th spot so I'm hanging in there! I'm on the edge of my seat to find out how this is going to end, anything could happen at this point, lol. I am praying to stay in the top 10 so I can be in the judging round to have a shot at placing in this contest because it would be a dream come true for me. If anyone hasn't voted yet and would be willing to do so, I'd be so so grateful to you! (Just click this link and sign in through Facebook or create an account on MakeupBee, then on my Sun Goddess entry, click the "Luv" heart on the top left.)
I'm so thankful to every single person who has already voted for me, it makes me emotional to think about it lol.. I've been working hard on this for the last few weeks, investing time and energy into the whole thing, and it would be amazing to see it all come out like I hope. :D

I think this will be the last time I beg for votes lol, sorry for the spam >.<;
Also, I might need to put the 90 Day Challenge on hold indefinitely but I'll post more on that later.
I hope you all have a good weekend and thank you so much for your support, it means the world to me!<333
