MUA Corner: The 411 On Makeup Junkie Hosted Workshops!

This is almost a month late, but this Makeup Junkie has been a busy girl! If you've been keeping up with my blog then you've read I've started hosting workshops for some of my favourite makeup artists who are the "who's who" in the industry. If you really want to be successful in the business of makeup artistry I recommend taking notes from a pro and not just any old amature.

On February 5th, I hosted a bridal makeup workshop alongside Dior Canada for Dior's Senior Artist, Fredis Velasquez. He not only is uber talented and can work magic with his brush, but he's also an old friend. I knew immediately the workshop attendees would love him and learn some major tips that would change their careers.

Fredis' was fantastic! He was funny, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. What I think stood out most was that he went to each artist and asked what their biggest makeup difficulty was. He worked one-on-one with each artist providing positive and constructive feedback and tips. Every MUA I spoke to couldn't wait for the next workshop with Fredis! We even went a half hour overtime - that's how dedicated Fredis was to his students. He wanted to make sure each person walked away learning many valuable tips.

There were a few familiar faces that attended including Donna Marie (read about her experience here), Naomi from StylEyes, Jill Oliver from Batting A Lash, Sarah Kirmani (Facebook Friend), and of course my lovely guest blogger, Elaine from Toronto Beauty Reviews

Sarah Kirmani and her lovely model Elaine! Photo courtesy of Elaine TorontoBeautyReviews.

Each attendee and their guest received an amazing gift bag from Dior which included 2 lip products I am obsessed with right now (review to come)! Thank you to Fredis and Dior Canada for being apart of Makeup Junkie's first ever workshop!

Intrigued? You should be because the next workshop is coming up on March 25th! If you're a MUA in the Toronto area this is one workshop not to be missed! One of my favourite makeup artists, Lucky Bromhead, will be teaching a workshop on HD makeup for print, television, and more. Not only does she have many years of experience working with celebrities and in television, but she is actually working in the industry and is successful! Part of this business is making smart moves and attending Lucky's workshop is definitely a smart one. So be there or be square.

I'm hosting this workshop with the lovely people at Make Up For Ever Canada and each attendee will receive a gift bag with some of their best-selling products! To purchase your early bird tickets and for more information visit: http://makeupwithluckyb.eventbrite.ca/ . Only until March 21st!

Makeup Challenge: Mellow Yellow

This week's NTMS challenge is Mellow Yellow so here's my look. It's not that mellow really but I don't think that matters, lol. I thought it was bright and cheerful, it reminded me of Spring! Also I don't know if it's noticeable but.. my Dad has been watching Hawaii Five-0 on Netflix and mentioned the fashion of the time, so I may have had Mod 60s makeup in the back of my mind when I did this. x3
Please click the pics to view in better detail!
Products:

Eyes:
-UDPP
-NYX Milk JEP
-BH 120 Palette, 1st edition (matte yellow on outer corner, matte white on lid)
-Sugarpill Buttercupcake (middle lid)
-BFTE "Sweet Nibblets" (inner lid)
-BFTE "Satin Sheets" (browbone)
-BFTE "Very Vanilla" (blend edges)
-Loreal Lineur Intense Carbon Black felt tip liquid liner pen
-Sephora mini white pencil (waterline)
-Cover Girl Lash Perfection mascara in Very Black
-Red Cherry lashes #747S
-Ardell Latex-Free clear lash adhesive (this stuff sucks)
-BH 120 Palette, 1st edition (matte medium brown on brows)

Face/Cheeks:
-mark. face primer
-Revlon Colorstay foundation (Ivory/Buff mixed)
Darling Girl Cosmetics:
-Boy Crazy blush (used as bronzer/contour)
-Cheeky blush
-Cherry Bomb blush
-Evil Shades blush in Atomic
-BFTE "Pyxis" highlighter
-Hard Candy Glamoflauge concealer in Light
-mark. setting powder

Lips:
-OCC Lip Tar in Queen
-CS 66 lipcolor palette, various shades
-NYX gloss in Smokey Look
-some other random stuff I can't remember lol

This look is a lot more... monochromatic than I usually do. I kept wanting to add other colors but since it was for a challenge I wanted to keep the focus on the yellow.
I had a lot of problems with this one, like I don't know what I did wrong but my eyelids immediately began creasing badly and you can kind of see it in some of the pics. >.<
The Ardell clear lash glue is terrible and I don't think I'll be using it anymore. I thought it might be better/easier/less messy than my Duo Dark but alas, it's not. It gets sticky after a second and it's hard to get enough on the lash to make it stick to your eyes. I've used it in my last few looks and you might be able to see the lash strip actually coming off in some of the pics. Not impressed :/
No-flash pic. My lips didn't look that mottled in real life :(
I got a little bored while editing these pics and it finally dawned on me that the makeup looks the same from every angle... it's not very complex so it makes it hard to get a variety of pics that are  interesting, lol. Oh well ;P
Different camera, no flash.
Anyway,  still enjoyed doing this since it's not something I'd ordinarily have done. I hope you enjoyed it :)
 Thanks for reading!<3

Oscars 2012

Did you watch the Oscars last night? I only watched the Red Carpet Live on E! Here are some of my favourite and my not so favourite dresses and make-up!

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli Dress

I have to admit sometimes I don't like or "get" Emma's style. This I thought this looked great on her,
Not sure about some people saying "Best Dressed" though! (I will get to mine in a minute) The shape is gorgeous and adding that bow does make it Oscar-ish but red on a red carpet?? Hmmm...

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

This kind of made me go "meh" its beautiful and she looks beautiful but she always does so it wasn't like Wow! She just looked like her!
Its like at the prom/debs in school, the girls who always look beautiful just look like they always do! Put this dress and make-up on some one we usually see as plain and it would be a wow moment but sorry Ang its a meh! from me.

Kristen Wiig

Okay so Kristen looks lovely but I think the women in purple behind her looks so beautiful, I dunno who she is but when I was watching this live both me and my sister Treena pointed her out as looking better then most on the night, so mystery girl you get the thumbs up from me!!

Tina Fey inCarolina Herrera

Tina was the only one wearing Carolina Herrera on the night and I do love it, I think its a great pick for her! Strapless seemed to be a running theme and not a necklace in sight! Some of the dresses kind of needed a necklace but I think it would have made Tina's dress too fussy.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad.
Love Jen in this! The long sleeves were also a trend on the night but the cut outs give it a sexy "showing some skin" look unlike Shailene Woodley, the girl from The Descendants who covered up head to toe (Which I think was a nice change others didn't)

Oh I also have to add I LOVE Jen's make-up!! Tutorial me thinks...

Viola Davis in Vera Wang

I loved the colour on her, not too sure about the old cleavage on show maybe a bit too much! Other then that I loved the dress, the colour and the accessories.

Penelope Cruz in Giorgio Armani dress
I love love love this!! It kind of reminds me of the dress Demi Lovato wore at the 2011 ALMA. I would love to see this dress in a nude pink but blue is gorgeous too! If I was young again and going to my debs I would have wore some thing like this! (If The Moderne in Cork had some thing like it! lol)
As for the hair and make-up well its my favourite on the night! LOVE!

What are Your thoughts?
Who did you love/Hate?
What make-up would you most like to see a tutorial on?

OOTD - Date Night!

Hi there ladies!

So if you follow my video you may have seen this outfit before or at least some thing similar, but I've never done a blog post about it so hey though I would!

I wore this to Google Offices in Dublin last years and a good few times because I love how wearable it is but still has a touch of style!

It was date night (of sorts) and we headed to Gino for dinner, I just wanted some thing casual really, I don't like "fuss" when it comes to outfits.

So I started with Blank Jegging (New Look - Super Skinny)

I prefer Jegging (Jean leggings) rather then just Leggings because I don't have the most "toned" legs
so the Jean material really hold the shape and mask any lump and bumps ;)

I added a black Tank (Penneys) under the Pink Shirt (Pennys)

I tried white tank under the shirt but I think with the black leggings it works better.
As for the pink shirt I love it, I carry all my weight on my hips and butt so this loose shirt hides it.

My black wedges are from Dunnes (I wear these all the time)

You could wear full on black heels with this but I like wedges, easier and we took a walk after dinner so I am glad I picked them!

For my jewellery I wore pearl earring and chain with my white watch that I always wear!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE pearls, I dunno why! I think they are kind of romantic and chic so I have lots of pairs in all different sizes (Just from Penneys like super cheap!)
The mid-length chain has a large pearl on the end which I got in Dunnes.

I have a video on this look coming soon :)

UD/BFTE EOTD

I hope the title doesn't make your eyes cross! >,< Here's a look I did for fun today using some new products, mainly my new Urban Decay Shadow Sticks and some BFTE samples I got from a friend :)
Products:
-UDPP
-Urban Decay Shadow Sticks in Juju (light golden brown blended out on lid) and Clash (bright blue on lower lashline)
BFTE shadows in:
-Bat Wing (shimmery bronzey brown on lid)
-Caribbean (bright turquoise, applied over Clash on lower lashline)
-Ornamental (pale gold on browbone and tearduct as highlight)
-Honey (light bronze and gold sparkles patted on middle lid over Bat Wing, and used as highlight over Ornamental)
-Sephora mini white pencil (tearduct)
-BFTE gel liner in Chocolate Mousse (just a touch in upper lashline)
-Cover Girl Lash Perfection mascara in Very Black
-CS 88 Palette, medium brown (on brow)
-Hard Candy Glamoflauge in Light
-BFTE mineral foundation in Light Beige

I tried adding some stuff to my waterline but in the end it just looked horrible and made my eye water and turn bloodshot lol. I also skipped eyeliner because I didn't feel like using it and then washing it off, muahaha! You can see a wee bit of me eyelid where the liner would go... it's kinda cute :3
No-flashshot
Aaaand my otherwise naked face. We'll pretend my skin doesn't look scary, okay? Okay!
I had some difficulty photographing these colors accurately; in person the lid looked cooler and more taupey, but for some reason the colors look very warm/golden in the pics. Ah well, I love these colors and Honey is now on my wishlist; it's sparkly goodness that's very wearable. ;)

Thanks for reading!<3

Urban Decay from Hautelook!

A few weeks ago, Hautlook.com was having a sale on Urban Decay. I've never ordered from Hautelook before but I couldn't resist picking up the shadow pencil set I've been wanting for a whopping 65% off!
With shipping I only paid like $16.95 for this set, what a steal!
Close-up shot to show the color names. I swatched them in the same order below :)
Daylight, L to R: Delinquent, Rehab, Juju, Sin, Clash.
Delinquent is a deep purple with lighter purple glitter; the glitter isn't chunky at all which is good. This photo doesn't accurately portray the color though, it's a lot more dull here than it looks in person.
Rehab is a neutral brown with pretty shimmer, almost bronzey. Juju is a gorgeous light golden brown with light, almost coppery shimmer.
Sin is a frosty peach champagne with no shimmer. So pretty! Clash is a brightly pigmented electric blue with fine silver glitter.
Here's a flash pic; you can see the glitter in Delinquent better but it still doesn't look as pretty as it does in person.
All shades glided easily on my arm, with Clash being the easiest; it was super creamy and I barely had to try to get the swatch you see in the pics. Delinquent was probably the most difficult to apply; I swiped it several times to get the swatch you see in the pics, but even so it still applies well. The rest of the shades were about even, and like I said, all shades went on smooth and easy.
I haven't tried blending these yet but they're still on my arm so I may try playing around with them before washing them off. *Edit: I tried rubbing the swatches with my finger but they had dried completely and wouldn't budge! They also took a bit of scrubbing to get off and I still have faint stains on my arm so I would definitely suggest a primer when used on the eyes.*
The colors are all pretty, the neutrals in particular are lovely. I can't wait to use these on my eyes and especially try them in conjunction with some of my mineral shadows.

Have you tried UD Shadow Pencils? Which are your favorites?

Makeup Junkie Loves...mark. Spring Accessories!

After makeup, my next loves are definitely jewelry, purses, and shoes. Accessories really complete your whole look. They are also a fun way to make an old outfit look new again. I'm kinda over winter, but then again did we really have a winter (I'm not complaining)? In any case, planning a spring/summer wardrobe is much more exciting. If you haven't thought of shopping mark. by Avon for accessories, you might want to add them to your list of faves. They have a lot of pretty baubles and of-the-moment trends that are fairly inexpensive. Check out my list of Spring favourites from mark.!

1. mark. Don't Leaf Me This Way Necklace ($24 CAD): Can you believe this was a real life at one point? Why you'll want this: no two are exactly alike! A delicate process reduces the leaf to its veins and edges before a coat of copper is applied to help strengthen and preserve those unique lines. It's such a simple and easy piece to wear and will look perfect with this Spring's sheer tops and dresses.

2. Rebecca Minkoff Delight Bag for mark. ($70 CAD): Yes, that's right - this rockin' silver studded bag is by the amazing designer, Rebecca Minkoff. I'm a huge fan of her handbag collection so I was super stoked to receive one! If you can't afford her purses, this is a much affordable option and it doesn't skimp on the quality or design. It is a perfect sized, studded faux leather bag featuring a demi chain link strap that can be tucked inside and used as a clutch. It's described as a "classic everyday bag, but with a twist". It also features her signature key clip inside so you won't have to fumble for your keys like I do! I adore it. I love wearing across the body and as a clutch but you can also adjust to wear over the shoulder. It has a lot of room and compartments to hold your cell phone, business cards and other items. I was able to fit one of my hardcover books in it along with my wallet and other everyday items! If you love Rebecca Minkoff, it's a definite must-have!

3. mark. Borrowed From The Boys Watch ($44 CAD): Ever since I saw one of the Olsen twins sporting a vintage Rolex, I loved the look. A man's watch on a woman's dainty arm just looks super chic  and timeless. A vintage Rolex will never be within my reach, but there are a tonne of boyfriend-inspired watches on the market to choose from in much more affordable prices. I love this goldtoned watch from mark. and the faux rhinestones bezel gives it a luxe feminine look. It really is a pretty watch - I got lots of compliments when I was working and all were shocked that it was from mark. In the above picture, it shows the mark. logo in the center but it's not on the actual watch. From an LBD to a classic white tee, a boyfriend style watch should be a staple in your wardrobe.

4. mark. Show Off Ring ($20 CAD): Who doesn't love a fabulous cocktail ring? This pretty bauble will look lovely with a pretty floral frock or add a splash of colour to a basic outfit. I love that it's a stretch band so it will fit any finger size. Also available in fuchsia and lime green.

All items are available March 2012. If you'd like to purchase these lovelies and you're in the Toronto area, contact Avon representative, Elaine from Toronto Beauty Reviews, and visit her Facebook page and From Elaine Next Door blog to keep up with the latest Avon and mark. launches!

Products were sent for editorial consideration and I truly love them.

UDPP

For those of you that haven't heard me RAVE about this primer then let me yell at you now...YOU MUST GET URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION IF IT IS THE LAST THING YOU DO!!!!!
I have used other primers to keep my shadow on all day and to keep from creasing and this one is by far the BeSt!!!!! My friend Sarah also just sent me a link where you can get it for half the price!!! The reason Urban Decay is doing this for a limited time is because they have changed their packaging. I am so happy they have made it into a squeezable bottle but for those of you that want this "vintage" look for half the price ($9) then HAVE AT THEE!!!

Here they are in the new squeezable bottles....(insert singing voice) loooooooooove!!!!!

OOTD - CASUAL

So I am hope to do a OOTW (Outfit of the week) with an outfit to fit each day of the week.

Here is my causal Saturday/Sunday OOTD

I started by taking a Plain White Tank Top
(Dunnes)

Straight Leg Jeans
(My sister's I dunno where she got them)

My hsamuel White Watch
and chain from Micheals (Cork)

Then I added a Checkered Grey/Purple Shirt over the top.
(Dunnes)

I rolled the sleeves up so make it looks causal and "lazy" :)

Only tied a few buttons in the middle to cinch in the waist.

If you want you could leave it open and the white top inside will
elongate the body making you appear taller and thinner.

With Hour Glass or Pears Shaped bodies (Like me) its better to "Cinch"

Keeping with the layered look -

I wore a Purple Jacket -  which matched the shirt pattern
(Dunnes)

I rolled the sleeve back down and then rolled them over the jackets sleeves (I think it just bring the outfit together)

Purple Bag is from Dunnes as are the sunglasses
(and I know what you're think sunglasses really?? But it was actually really bright outside!)

   I have two shoe options,
   Black wedges
   (Dunnes)

  Sliver/Grey Flats
  (Also Dunnes)

Its up to you which you like more,
I love my wedges wear them ALMOST every day!!

Hope you liked it! Video to should be up later in the week anyways! :)

Sineady xx

This is how I did my hair BTW :)
